Data Engineering Manager, Alexa Enterprise Data

Alexa Enterprise Data team is looking for a seasoned Manager of Data Engineering to serve as a strategic technical resource to lead cross-functional efforts, establish design and development standards and mechanisms, and to deliver innovative tools and automation for scaled usage. You will get the opportunity to define metrics for innovative products, and identify trends to prevent future defects. You will work closely with Engineering, Product and Technical Program teams as you develop forward-looking architecture and build strategies to complement the revolutionary Alexa Enterprise vision.
In this role, you will have the freedom (and encouragement) to experiment, improve, invent, and innovate on behalf of our customers. This role is for a Data Engineering Manager with an emphasis on designing highly scalable and extensible solutions. You ll be responsible for a team of Data Engineers, BIEs currently handling several infrastructure-based efforts including large scale migrations, deprecation, infrastructure overhauls, and simplification efforts. Significant focus is currently required on reducing redundancy, rationalization, and efficiency in order to effectively serve global internal and external customers. You will also work closely with stakeholders, and products to deliver our most complex, high quality, scalable products deployed globally. The daily duties will include standard mechanisms to ensure high-quality development in addition to ad hoc engagements including code delivery to assist with high-profile challenges to the organization

Key job responsibilities
Establishing and achieving targets for dataset availability, performance, and accuracy
Leading teams through building datasets that analysts and BIEs use to generate actionable insights.
Guiding and influencing data engineering, business intelligence, and business analyst teams across Alexa Enterprise into how to present and access data across pipelines
Providing thought-leadership to Amazon leadership and business partners, delivering solutions to strategic problems
Communicating performance against goals and objectives through narratives and business reviews

A day in the life
You will be leading a team of Data Engineers and BIEs and will play a thought leadership role in our team - the team will look to you for advice on data and business issues facing them. You work very efficiently and routinely deliver the right things. You will have a company-wide view of the Data Engineering solutions that you build, and you will consistently think in terms of automating or expanding the results company-wide. This high impact role will have an opportunity to lead a team to help design and build our data infrastructure and work with emerging technologies such as Redshift and associated AWS cloud services while driving business intelligence solutions end-to-end: business requirements, workflow instrumentation, data modeling and ETL.

- 2+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience
- 2+ years of relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL) experience
- 2+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics (using ETL/ELT processes) experience
- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience communicating to senior management and customers verbally and in writing
- Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
