Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and enhance our organization s database systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, performance, and security of databases, along with developing efficient database solutions to support business operations. The DBA will collaborate with IT, development, and operations teams to ensure optimal database functionality and support.
Responsibilities
- Database Management: Install, configure, and upgrade database systems, including but not limited to MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or NoSQL databases.
- Monitoring Optimization: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements for optimization and efficiency.
- Security: Manage data security, encryption, backups, and access control, ensuring that all databases meet security and compliance requirements.
- Backup Recovery: Develop, implement, and manage backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and continuity.
- Data Migration: Support data migration, import/export activities, and manage data integration with other platforms and applications.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve database issues, including performance problems, connectivity issues, and data inconsistencies.
- Capacity Planning: Analyse database growth and recommend scaling solutions for storage and performance.
- Documentation: Create and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to design and implement database strategies, schemas, and solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) or similar role.
- Hands-on experience with database management systems (eg, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle etc).
- Strong understanding of database structure, theories, principles, and practices.
- Experience with database security, backup, and recovery.
- Proficiency in SQL and database programming languages.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with data management and data governance practices.
- Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with database automation and scripting.
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Knowledge of database performance tuning and query optimization.
Education
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
