Senior Accountant

Role & responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

• Prepare accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Ensure financial reports comply with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
• Review financial statements for discrepancies, errors, or inconsistencies.

General Ledger Management:

• Oversee and manage the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Ensure timely reconciliation of accounts.

Accounting Operations:

• Manage and supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
• Review, process, and approve invoices, payments, and receipts.
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

• Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
• Track and analyze budget variances to ensure alignment with financial goals.
• Support senior management in financial planning and decision-making.

Tax Compliance and Reporting:

• Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
• Prepare and file tax returns, including sales tax, payroll tax, and corporate tax filings.
• Collaborate with external auditors and tax professionals to resolve any tax-related matters.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, legal regulations, and accounting standards.
• Conduct periodic audits of financial processes and systems.

Supervision and Training:

• Lead and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
• Assign tasks and ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting duties.
• Review work done by junior staff and offer constructive feedback.

Financial Analysis:

• Analyze financial data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management based on financial performance.
• Assist with cost control measures and efficiency improvements.

Audit Support:

• Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of audit schedules and documentation.
• Address any audit queries and implement corrective actions if necessary.

System and Process Improvements:

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems.
• Recommend and implement process enhancements for greater efficiency and accuracy.
• Assist with the integration of new software or accounting systems.

Ad Hoc Financial Projects:

• Assist with special projects as assigned by management.
• Conduct financial research and analysis to support business decisions.
• Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
