Assistant IT Manager/ IT Manager

Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced IT Manager with 10 to 12 years of experience in the VFX and animation industry to lead our IT department. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the technical requirements for visual effects (VFX) and animation pipelines, as well as expertise in Linux and Mac systems administration. You will be responsible for ensuring smooth technical operations, optimizing systems to meet production demands, and leading a team of IT professionals to support the studios objectives.

Responsibities:

• Manage IT Infrastructure: Oversee the planning, deployment, and maintenance of the studio's IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and workstations tailored for high-end VFX and animation production.
• Production Support: Ensure high availability and performance of systems critical to VFX and animation production, including render farms, asset management systems, and storage solutions.
• Linux Expertise: Administer and maintain Linux-based systems, ensuring optimal performance and security for VFX and animation applications.
• Firewall & Network Security: Implement and manage robust firewall configurations and security protocols to protect sensitive data and ensure secure network operations.
• Storage Solutions Management: Oversee the management of high-performance storage systems (NAS, SAN) to support large-scale media production, ensuring efficient data access and integrity.
• Switch Management: Maintain and optimize network switches and architecture, ensuring reliable connectivity and performance across all production environments.
• VFX Pipeline Integration: Collaborate closely with production and pipeline teams to ensure seamless integration of IT systems with VFX/animation tools such as Autodesk Maya, Nuke, and Houdini.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices, implementing measures to protect intellectual property and production assets.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals, providing guidance and career development. Foster a collaborative and problem-solving culture within the department.
• Vendor Management: Liaise with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure timely procurement and maintenance of hardware, software, and IT services. Negotiate contracts to meet budgetary and operational needs.
• Disaster Recovery & Backup Solutions: Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies and backup solutions to ensure business continuity in the event of system failures or data loss.
• Troubleshooting & Support: Oversee the resolution of IT-related issues, providing hands-on technical support when necessary. Manage and improve helpdesk operations.
• Cost Management: Control IT budgets and expenditures, optimizing costs while maintaining high system performance and security.
• Scalability & Growth: Plan for the scalability of IT systems as the company grows, ensuring the infrastructure can handle increasing production demands.

Qualification & skills:

• Experience: 10-12 years of experience in IT management, specifically within the VFX and animation industry.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Mac operating systems, as well as the hardware and software commonly used in VFX/animation production (e.g., Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Shotgun, render farms).
• Network Expertise: Good knowledge of network architecture, including firewalls, switches, VPNs, and high-speed data transfer across LAN/WAN.
• Virtualization: Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Proxmox, and Citirx).
• Storage Solutions: Experience managing high-performance storage systems (NAS, SAN, etc.) optimized for large-scale media production.
• VFX Pipeline Understanding: Strong grasp of VFX and animation production pipelines, including asset management, rendering workflows, and collaboration tools.
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead and inspire IT teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external partners.
• Project Management: Solid project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications: IT certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, or RHCE and RCSA.
• Cloud & Automation Skills: Experience with cloud-based workflows and automation for rendering, data storage, and backups.
