The Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad, invites applications for faculty positions in its Centre for Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development (CUG&ID). Established in 1956, ASCI is a distinguished public-purpose institution that provides education, training, research, and advisory services to governments, multilateral agencies, and industries.
The Centre for Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development (CUG&ID) has established itself as a global leader in urban governance, municipal waste management, circular economy, environmental sustainability, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) innovations. Our goal is to improve the lives of 70 million people by 2030 by driving transformative policy and programmatic changes in urban India.
We are seeking applications from outstanding and passionate professionals to join us as Associate Professor(s) / Assistant Professor(s) in the following areas:

• Municipal & Plastic Waste Management
• Urban Environmental Sanitation
• Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) & Urban Infrastructure Services
• Water and Sanitation Innovations & Circularity

Persons who had previously worked in Government and have similar expertise in these areas and who have previous dealing with national and bilateral funding agencies are the preferred professionals for this job.

Salary would be commensurate with their experience and exposure.

1. Position overview

As an Associate Professor / Assistant Professor at ASCI, you will be pivotal in leading research and training practitioners, driving impactful field projects, advising governments on policy development, designing capacity-building programs, and fostering climate-resilient innovations in sustainable urban development. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to create lasting change in urban governance and environmental sustainability.

1. Key responsibilities

• Field-Level Project Implementation: Plan, coordinate, and execute urban sanitation, environmental sustainability, and waste management initiatives across India.
• Policy Advisory and advocacy: Work with national and state governments to develop and implement progressive urban governance and infrastructure services policies.
• Capacity Building & Teaching: Deliver training programs for government officials and industry professionals in waste management, circularity, and urban infrastructure.
• Research & Innovation: Conduct and publish high-quality research on sustainable urban development, sanitation, and waste circularity.
• Business Development & Partnerships: Develop proposals, secure project funding, and foster collaborations with governments, development agencies, and the private sector.
• Organizational Leadership: Contribute to ASCI’s strategic initiatives, internal capability building, and outreach activities.

• Demonstrated leadership in managing multi-sectoral projects and interdisciplinary teams.
• Experience in developing and implementing urban policy frameworks.

1. Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

Associate Professor and Assistant Professor – Solid & Plastic Waste Management

• Master’s degree or PhD in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in municipal solid waste management, plastic waste management, and sustainability.
• Strong expertise in policy development, private sector collaboration, and innovation management in waste management.
• Experience designing city-level waste management strategies and working with urban local bodies.
• Training experience in Waste Management

Associate Professor and Assistant Professor – Urban Sanitation & Environmental Sustainability

• Master’s or PhD in Environmental Management, Public Policy, Civil Engineering, or Sanitation Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in urban sanitation, non-sewer sanitation, faecal sludge and septage management, and decentralized wastewater treatment.
• Strong understanding of sanitation governance, climate resilience, and social inclusion in sanitation.
• Ability to lead policy advisory engagements with state and national governments.

Associate Professor and Assistant Professor – Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) & Urban Services

• Master’s degree or PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Engineering, Infrastructure Planning, or Urban Development.
• Minimum 5 years of experience structuring and implementing PPP models in urban service delivery.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, financial models, and risk-sharing mechanisms in PPP projects.
• Experience in transaction advisory, capacity building, and project financing in urban infrastructure.

Associate Professor and Assistant Professor – WASH Innovations & Circular Economy

• Master’s or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) innovations, circular economy, and sustainability.
• Experience in managing innovation programs, incubating startups, and scaling frugal waste and water management innovations.
• Strong research background in climate resilience, resource efficiency, and sustainable business models.
