Network Engineer L2/L3

Role & responsibilities

The L2/L3 Network Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical support, managing network infrastructure, and resolving complex issues in the network. The role requires strong experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading the network systems and services, while also working on network design and architecture improvements.

Responsibilities:

• Network Troubleshooting and Support:
  
• Provide Level 2/Level 3 support for network-related incidents and issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex network problems in LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, switches, routers, and other network devices.
• Monitor network performance, identify issues, and take proactive steps to prevent problems.
• Network Infrastructure Maintenance:
  
• Maintain and upgrade network infrastructure, including routing, switching, wireless, and security devices.
• Manage network configuration, patch updates, firmware upgrades, and backups.
• Network Design and Implementation:
  
• Assist in the design, implementation, and optimization of network architecture and infrastructure.
• Participate in network capacity planning, scalability, and performance tuning.
• Documentation and Reporting:
  
• Document network configurations, troubleshooting steps, and solutions.
• Maintain detailed reports of network operations, performance, and issues resolved.
• Collaboration:
  
• Work closely with the IT team, security engineers, and third-party vendors to ensure network reliability and security.
• Support senior engineers in network design and larger infrastructure projects.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Education:
  
• Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).
• Technical Skills:
  
• Proficiency with routing and switching protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
• Strong understanding of network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN).
• Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or other major networking hardware.
• Knowledge of WAN optimization, QoS, VLANs, and network segmentation.
• Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, PRTG).
• Familiarity with network automation tools and scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.).
• Experience:
  
• 3+ years of experience as a Network Engineer (preferably L2/L3 level).
• Experience with enterprise-level network design and support.
• Certifications:
  
• Cisco certifications like CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent (strongly preferred).
• Additional certifications in networking, security, or cloud technologies (e.g., CompTIA Network+, AWS Certified Advanced Networking).
• Soft Skills:
  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects.

Optional/Preferred Skills:

• Experience with cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN).
• Knowledge of load balancing and high-availability networking.
