Role & responsibilities


1. Procurement Skills


  • Vendor Management: Ability to source high-quality HT and LT electrical components from reliable suppliers. This includes managing vendor relationships, evaluating their performance, and negotiating pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Cost Management and Budgeting: Skill in managing procurement budgets, negotiating cost-effective deals, and analyzing cost-benefit ratios to ensure quality purchases while maintaining budgetary constraints.
  • Contract Negotiation: Knowledge of contract terms for electrical equipment purchases, including warranties, delivery schedules, after-sales service, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Market Research: Ability to perform detailed market analysis and identify potential suppliers for HT and LT electrical components, ensuring the best value for the organization.

2.Technical Knowledge of HT and LT Systems


  • HT Electrical Equipment Knowledge: In-depth understanding of High Tension equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, overhead lines, cable systems, and power distribution boards. The officer should know specifications, voltage ratings, operational limits, and installation requirements.
  • LT Electrical Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with Low Tension equipment, such as low-voltage cables, distribution boards, fuses, contactors, breakers, and power panels.
  • Protection and Control Systems: Knowledge of protection relays, control systems, SCADA systems, and their roles in both HT and LT networks. Familiarity with power transformers and substations is also important.
  • Electrical Standards and Codes: The officer should have a strong understanding of national and international electrical standards (e.g., IEC, IS, IEEE), safety norms, and industry regulations specific to HT and LT systems.

3. Technical Skills in Procurement Software


  • ERP Systems: Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, such as SAP, Oracle, or other procurement tools. This enables the officer to track orders, inventory, and vendor performance effectively.
  • Procurement Tools: Ability to use procurement tools like e-sourcing platforms, e-procurement systems, and database management software to streamline the purchasing process.

4. Experience and Industry Knowledge


  • Relevant Work Experience: Experience in the procurement of electrical components and systems, specifically for HT and LT applications, is crucial. Experience working in industries like power generation, construction, renewable energy, or industrial manufacturing is beneficial.
  • Project Management Experience: Prior experience in managing large-scale electrical procurement projects, ensuring that equipment is sourced within budget, on time, and in compliance with specifications.
  • Supply Chain Management: Understanding of logistics, inventory management, and supply chain dynamics, particularly for bulky and high-cost electrical components.

5. Negotiation and Communication Skills

  • Negotiation Skills: The officer must be skilled in negotiating with suppliers for favorable pricing, delivery schedules, and contract terms, ensuring cost-effective procurement without compromising quality.
  • Clear Communication: The officer should be able to clearly communicate technical specifications and requirements to suppliers and internal teams. They should also be able to explain technical details of equipment to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration: Effective collaboration with internal teams (e.g., engineering, finance, and logistics departments) to ensure that procurement decisions align with project goals and technical requirements.

6. Attention to Detail and Accuracy

  • Specification Verification: The officer must ensure that all procured equipment matches the required technical specifications (voltage ratings, capacity, type of material, etc.). Any deviation from specifications can lead to safety hazards or equipment failure.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that suppliers provide products that meet agreed-upon quality standards. The officer should be involved in evaluating product quality via inspection, testing, and certification before finalizing purchases.

7. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

  • Problem-Solving: The officer should be adept at resolving issues related to delayed shipments, quality discrepancies, or warranty claims. The ability to quickly resolve problems ensures smooth operations and avoids project delays.
  • Decision-Making: The ability to make informed decisions under pressure, especially when choosing suppliers, managing project timelines, or resolving procurement issues.

8. Budgeting and Financial Acumen

  • Cost Evaluation: Ability to analyze total costs involved in procurement, including not only purchase prices but also logistics, installation, maintenance, and operational costs over the lifespan of the equipment.
  • Budget Management: Ensuring that all electrical equipment purchases are made within the allocated budget, without compromising quality or project timelines.
