Carbody Domain Engineer

           Will be part of Carbody design department that performs all technical activities necessary for the design of Carbodies for various types of Rail vehicles

           Reports into Carbody Design Manager

           Perform the assigned design / development tasks of Carbody structure / Module / Component level pertaining to one or more projects as per the defined vehicle architecture / platform

• Involve in study of requirements as well as implied needs and derive multiple concepts by suitable investigation considering various influencing factors
• Select & optimize the concepts based on requirements and fit for purpose in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders that consist of other Design counterparts, Suppliers, Cross-functional teams, Customers etc.
• Mature the concept designs in to Preliminary and Final designs in line with project deadlines as well as getting GO in Gate reviews
• Responsible for Carbody design deliverables (Technical specifications, 3D models, Drawings, BoM etc.) to Internal customers from time to time across different phases of design process
• Perform self-quality checks and ensure accuracy and consistency in all deliverables
• Collaborate cross functional activities in order to fix problems and ensure smooth integration of the systems on the Carbody
• Capture best practices, build a knowledge repository, and create training materials for new engineers inducted into the team

Academic Qualifications:

• BE / B.Tech / ME / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience required:

• Rolling stock domain experience is essential.    In some cases, an equivalent experience in other industries / domains can also be considerable.
• Minimum duration of relevant experience required is:

o       6 years for Design Engineer position and

o       12 years for Senior Design Engineer position

Skills required:

• Working level expertise in Rolling stock Carbody & Building blocks development including Body shell assembly, Structure modules, sub-assemblies and parts
• Well versed with various Carbody construction techniques viz. welded / CKD /SKD etc. using Stainless Steel / Carbon Steel / Aluminium materials
• Thorough knowledge of materials used in Carbody design and relevant National / International standards
• Good knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes viz. forming, cutting, welding, fastening, bonding, surface protection etc.
• Hands-on experience in design weld joints (size, shape, weld prep etc.) and drawing weld representations according to National / International standards preferably EN 15085 & ISO 2553
• Experience in understanding, investigating and implementing the interfaces on Carbody structure required to accommodate all the sub-system equipment
• Proficiency to execute CAD tasks to create or modify 3D models and 2D drawings in PLM environment, desirably in Creo and Windchill, including drawing standards, change management and release workflows
• Excellent knowledge of reading / interpreting drawings especially welding notations and application of tolerances
• General understanding EN/UIC standards related to Carbody structure and ability to interpret/ review structural analysis / calculation reports to take appropriate decisions
• Appreciable understanding of the product cost influencers (material, process, design etc.) during concept /solution selection phase
• Good oral and written English communication skills
