E1 is basic unit of PDH and it's rate is 2Mbps. It contains 32 channels and every channel sends 8bits at a time so in one frame total 32*8 =256 bits been sent. In one second every channel sends 8bits 8000 times. Hence total bits in one second= 32 channels*8bits*8000 rounds = 2048000 bits/second or 2048 kbps or 2.048 Mbps.
