Deviation refers to the difference between actual and expected results. Types include positive, negative, constant, and random.

Positive deviation occurs when actual results are higher than expected, e.g. sales exceeding targets.
Negative deviation occurs when actual results are lower than expected, e.g. production falling short of targets.
Constant deviation occurs when actual results consistently differ from expected by the same amount, e.g. a machine always producing parts that are 2mm too small.
Random deviation occurs when actual results vary unpredictably around the expected value, e.g. a coin toss resulting in heads or tails.
