Transformer losses are the energy losses that occur in a transformer during the process of energy transfer.

There are two types of transformer losses: copper losses and iron losses.
Copper losses occur due to the resistance of the transformer windings and are proportional to the square of the current flowing through the windings.
Iron losses occur due to the magnetic properties of the transformer core and are constant regardless of the load on the transformer.
Iron losses can be further divided into hysteresis losses and eddy current losses.
Hysteresis losses occur due to the reversal of magnetization in the transformer core and are proportional to the frequency of the alternating current.
Eddy current losses occur due to the circulation of currents in the transformer core and are proportional to the square of the frequency of the alternating current.
