1. Purpose
Stored Procedures: Primarily used to perform tasks or operations like inserting, updating, or deleting data. They can execute a series of SQL statements and can also perform business logic.
Functions: Primarily used to compute and return a value. They are typically used in queries for calculations, data transformations, or returning scalar values.
2. Return Type
Stored Procedures: Do not necessarily return a value. They can return zero or more values (via output parameters or result sets) but are not required to return a value.
Functions: Must return a single value (either scalar or table). They are designed to return a result, which could be a string, number, table, etc.
