Technological challenges: Developing and implementing high speed train technology requires expertise and resources.
Focus on other transportation modes: India has prioritized investment in other transportation modes like roads and air travel.

Quality of rails need to be more superior i.e of higher grade which can withstand load at higher speeds. We are in the process of manufacturing high grade rails with UTS 1080 Mpa.
Secondly most of the rail network passes through populated zone which also prevents it from high speed.
Thirdly high traffic of railways pose problem of signalling which again lessens the train speed.
