C- Gave generic 2 min response.

I1: We went through your CV (He had my CV in his hand with comments and underlines everywhere. He must have gone thoroughly through my CV before the interview). You first worked at the manufacturing unit then moved to the corporate office and now you are doing MBA. Can you explain your career moves?

C: I want to be in a leadership position in the long run in the operations domain. I wanted ground-level knowledge from shop floor which is base of any manufacturing industry. I always had a plan of doing MBA as knowledge of theoretical business concepts is important in the long run.

I1: Then why did you appear for GATE? (GATE rank was written on my CV) Did you also want to do MTech? Looks like you were a bit confused with what you want from your career. I see a lot of research work from your undergraduate times also.

C: Generally students give GATE to either go for MTech or get a job in PSU. I already had an offer to pursue MTech in my final year at IITB. I also had a job offer from BPCL which I had to let go because I liked the project I was working on in Reliance. I gave GATE to refine my Chemical engineering knowledge which was required at that time in my workex.

Research is one way you can get a deep understanding of your domain. I always like to be 
thorough in my subject matter understanding, That's why I did a lot of research work during my undergraduate studies.

I1: Alright. Share an incident where you had to change your mind after making a decision?

C: Shared an incident from my workex.

I2: Asked 2-3 followup questions on my answer like what was the reaction from your boss? How did you manage the upper management?

I1: Share an incident where you had to confront your superior about something that he/she was doing wrong?

I1: Mess manager is not your superior. Kindly share a different incident.

C: Please give me some time. Took almost 30 seconds. Shared another incident from my workex.

I2: Grilled on my answer. Asked 2-3 follow up questions like how did your superior take it? What was the end result?

I1: Do you have any questions for us?

C: Yes. I recently read an article saying amazon has reduced its investment in India compared to last year. I was wondering why, as India is such an emerging market and Amazon is doing so well.

I2: I don't know where are you getting this info but we are actually increasing our investment in India. We just started our biggest office in Hyderabad.

I1: Where did you read this? This info is incorrect.

C: Well, it was a leading Indian business newspaper and they were comparing last year to this year. Maybe the wording they used was little tricky. Maybe they were comparing the increase in investment this year is less than the increase in investment last year. That means although total investment has increased but marginal increment has decreased. I am not sure, that's why I asked.

I1: Yeah. Sometimes newspapers use tricky wordings to get attention. Anything else you want to ask?

C: No sir. thank you
