If you are asking with respect to direct query then:

Use edit interaction to remove unwanted interactions to visuals
use proper connecter eg. for sql data instead of using odbc connector use sql server connector as it will get the data properly and improve the efficiency also
implement 4-5 visuals on single page, use tool tip to show more information
Optimize the data model so that it's easy to propogate navigation and also to write DAX queries
Use TOPN at visual level if possible
