Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: One of the lady interviews threw the first question at me "Do you see that picture behind you? What common thing do you find in it?" I observed it carefully and answered that they were pictures of girl students. Then she further asked me about my views on "Girl Education". I was prepared for it and I answered all that common lines that "Girls are equal to boys....they should be given same education...Educational reforms should be made to supplement their education etc." Then I was asked what my favourite subject was, which I gleefully replied "Maths". The ball was thrown in the Maths' Interviewer's court. He asked me questions from "Polynomials". The questions were "What are the roots of a quadratic equation?" I answered with some hesitation but the answer was correct. Then was the tricky one "How many roots are there in a cubic equation?" I was confused but I randomly answered "Three", which was correct.
Then came the turn of the Geography instructor. Firstly she inquired about Geography being one of my favorite subjects or not. It was not but I courteously replied "Yes". Then she asked me a streak of questions which I had no clue about. The first one was "What are the different types of volcanoes?"; Then "Difference between U shaped and V shaped valley" and she had the globe in her hand and pinpointed to some place. Then she asked me "Which country is it?" I had no clue at all!!
Then came the turn of Physics instructor. He asked me about Quantization of charge and why do the Sky looks blue while the leaves look green?. I mugged up the first one but the second one was easy to answer.
Then again it came back to the general discussion. They asked me What I wanted to become after growing old? I replied "Engineer" which was counter-attacked by "Why not a doctor as your father is also a doctor"? I replied that I had no interest in Medicine and that Science and Maths amused me more.
Finally the last question was "Name some women/ girl children who have made their parents proud?". I replied "Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams, Indira Gandhi, Mayawati, Sania Mirza". The answer Mayawati made them laugh a lot.Ā
So the interview commenced and terminated in a joyous mood. It was not so bad but I got 17/25. I failed to qualify for NTSE by a meagre 2 marks thanks to the seats reserved for SC,ST and OBC. I was an 8th class student at that time but the questions wee beyond 10th class. SST wretched my ship. But thank god they did not include English Literature as a subject. All is well that Ends Well and I hope that this was just the beginning of my journey.
