3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: I have reached the venue 30 minutes early to avoid last minute rush. It was a consultancy, hiring partner of HP. Some of the candidates were already waiting in the lobby. I registered my name with security guard and started waiting for my turn.

First round in HP is a written test. I found it myself little convenient because i was well prepared. Finally written test had begun and it was divided into 5 parts

A. General Maths

B. Logical Reasoning

C. Accountancy

D. English

E. Email writing.

The written test went smooth for me. Except in the Logical Reasoning section,i performed well in other sections. Logical Reasoning was a tricky section.

General Maths section to some extent was based on the basics of High School. One can do well if he remembers the basics. Accountancy section also had basic questions which we have learned at our First year Pre-University level. Then the English section. It was filled with grammar questions. Eventually Email Writing. The one who do well in the English section will also do well in the Email section. Because both these sections are two faces of a coin. In this section recruiters mainly check out our sentence construction abilities and certain email etiquette. This is the end of first round.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I was waiting to know the results of a first round. Those were really tensed moments. After 30 minutes HR coordinator came to us and announced the names of the candidates those who were cleared the first round. I was one amongst them.

We were informed that second round was going to be the HR round and HR executive from the HP company itself was coming to take the interview. The HR came and started the interview. After 4 candidates my turn came. I was little nervous. I entered the room. Here is the conversation.

I: Good Afternoon Ma'am.

HR: Good Afternoon. Take your seat please.

I: Thank you.

HR: Well, you are MR. Hemanth. am i right ?

I: Yes Ma'am.

HR: How are you Hemanth ?

I: I am fine, thank you. How about you ma'am ?

HR: Oh. I am fine too, thanks.

HR: Fine, tell me something about you. your family, your educational background, etc..

I: I introduced myself to her and briefed about family, education and interests.

HR: Fair enough.

HR: Do you know anything about BPO ?

I: Yes ma'am. It is a acronym for Business Process Outsourcing. The advanced countries in the Europe, especially United States, came up with this idea to over come the shortage of skilled human resource in their country. Their focus was mainly on India because they knew India is a pool of skilled and cheap laborers. In fact, right now i am in the process of getting a job just because of this BPO.

HR: Good.

HR. Do you know what HP does ? what is its major functional areas ?

I: Yes ma'am. Founded in 1939 by two young Stanford Graduates, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, it is now a major technology company. HP's products range from printers to computer monitors; scanners to enterprise software; mobile phone to laptop and many more. It operates in number of business verticals such as; imaging & printing group, enterprise software, servers & storage and recently into financial services.

HR: Good. Well articulated.Ā

I: Thank you ma'am.

HR: You can wait outside. We will announce the result soon.

I: Sure. Nice to meet you.

HR. Nice to meet you too.

Here comes the end of second round. It was precise and lasted for just 8 minutes. Results were announced and i was delighted to know that i was through. They gave me the third and final round details. It was scheduled next day in the HP company itself.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The road for HP was half traveled. It was Operations round that day. We were informed earlier that operation manager from the respective teams would be taking the interview.

I have reached the company 20 minutes early and gave my resume to the HR coordinator. After 30 minutes the HR called my name. I entered the manager's cabin with unknown uneasiness. Here is the conversation.

I: Good Afternoon sir.

Manager: Good Afternoon. Well, Hemanth relax yourself and be cool.

I: Okay thank you sir.

Manager: (He glanced at my resume) Fine, today i will be asking you questions based on Accountancy. Before that i want you to introduce yourself.

I: Definitely sir. I introduced myself with all details regarding education, family and hobbies.

Manager. Well. Tell me the golden rules of accounting ?

I: Sure. For real account; Debit what comes in and Credit what goes out. For personal account; Debit the receiver and Credit the giver. For nominal account; Debit all expenses and losses and Credit all incomes and gains.

Manager: Fine. What is Prepaid Expenses ?

I: The expenses which we pay before they are due for the payment are Prepaid expenses. It is an asset.

Manager: Good. What is contingent liabilities.

I: The liabilities which may or may not occur. Those are called contingent liabilities.

Manager: which side of the balance sheet does closing stock come ? And under what category ?

I: It comes in the credit side of the balance sheet and it comes under Trading and Profit & Loss account.

Manager: Good. What is Depreciation ? How to calculate it ?

I: Depreciation is a process wherein the value of the asset will be decreasing gradually due to ware & tare and usage. We have various methods to calculate depreciation such as, straight line method, diminishing value method etc.

Manager: Fine. Hmm, tell me the journal entry for purchase returns ?

I: Cash account debit
