3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The hr and technical interviews were together. Technical part dominated my interview. as I was a baha sae
motoholics member they asked me more of automobiles.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Why don't you take up automobiles? As you give answers with your heart in that field, why you want NTPC, any questions for NTPC (after interview ended). Its usual to get nervous in starting but they asked me that do u want to give interview in telugu?I said telugu raadu and panel laughed..it eased my nerves off..so ..it was an awesome experience and panel was too friendly but ya technically very sound..they were asking many questions yet they gave time to think..i was more than happy after i left the interview and they extracted every answer out of me rather than being very stiff...they were trying to help in middle than being rude..so its was a great time inside...
Tips: Just be yourself and try to be confident even if you are not..do not panic and try answering crisply and precisely

General Tips: Try knowing the code of conduct for interviews as i saw the hr person looking my way of sitting and was happy when i placed my files on my legs than on table..be very safe with answers and unnecessarily including big words wont be good..try being cool and smile..think as if its just a discussion with unknown people... coming to hr..keep it simple and dont show off your certi or training or anything..they know u have them.. tech can be done by seeing company profile and feedbacks..prepare st pow plants in details..pref mathur mehta tiwari is good..it has everything they need from u..if u have a good technical achievement in college or project related to NTPC or good training be very good in that..not answering on that ruins your chances..ask a question or share a thought when they ask u after interviews..that's it..i have written everything what happened there..so for now..all the best and keep smiling !

2 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: They asked me Networking questions and some questions on Compilers. some simple questions like:
1.What does a compiler do. 2.What are single pass and multiple pass compilers. 3.What is a parser. Coming to networking : What is the protocol used to connect two computers, OSI layers TCP/IP layers. Some questions were also on communications. Overall the interview is cool. All that you need is to be cool and confident with basics right in your pocket

Round: HR Interview
Experience: 1.The first question I faced was "You have started with very good cgpa, what happened later" as my cgpa graph was declining.
2.Who is the recent Indian cricketer who got place in indian cricket team for Sri Lankan tour; ans: It was Ravinder Jadeja I answered. They asked about all his achievements, what he is, which state, which place. I answered all those questions. Then they asked me about cricket as am a college team cricket player. They asked some general knowledge questions to relax us. Overall its so cool. They were friendly and said about their experiences with students who ask details about where they are going or be placed etc. Its much about test for your personality and humour.

General Tips: Be descent and do not talk about the issues like : Where will I be placed, what's the salary/perks etc., as he told me in the interview that many people will ask about these details. Do not let your chances go off easily. Its the best chance to get into a prestigious company.

3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: First of all they asked me what are all the subjects in which I am perfect.I said them all related to Power Systems. One of the interviewer asked me if I had touch with Power Electronics.I said I had idea, then he asked me about
applications of thyristor and why is it used.Questions asked were: Which is the extensively used motor in general?(in general it is I.M) .Draw the speed torque characteristics of I.M.Define slip, synchronous speed and how does sync speed depends on no of poles? What happens to speed of I.M if load is increased? Why should not be the slip not zero in I.M?(finally asked me entire working principle of I.M).[This is where I impressed him that he said me very good] What are the protections used for a generator?(I listed all the ones i have studied. While i was saying about relay for protection for failure of prime mover of generator ,the interviewer asked me why the protection of generator should be used given that drawing of power from bus bar is allowed,I was little struck here but to my luck the other interviewer interrupted and asked me following questions ]How do you determine direction of rotation of motor using hands?(F.L.H AND F.R.H). What is U.P.S?where is it used?(uninterrupted power supply) Do you know about 'variable frequency drives' ..(actually this from subject which we were taught in 4-1 and still not taught,I said the same to them) What are the various precautions to be taken to connecting transformers in parallel?

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview for eee guys was scheduled on 27th.I had to wait all the first day for my turn..but i was informed that my interview was on next day...even i waited for my friends interview and asked how were the interviewers and what all questions they were asking..My friends told me that they were asked simple questions regarding basics..So, i felt comfortable and slept...I am the 2nd person to be interviewed on the second day..while the first guy was sent inside i was made to sit alone..So, i was little tensed sitting alone..After 15 minutes i was called for the interview ..there were 7 people siting in the panel with the chairman at the center...Starting from the first question i answered the questions with confidence with a supporting reason for my answer...This was why i impressed the panel(explanation of principle of I.M). The thing i need to stress you guys is that i was the 2nd from the last in general category shortlisted...So,i say i say that even you don't have cgpa your selection can be influenced by your performance in interview..Of course having cgpa doesn't hurt..it plays am important role in PSUs.. I was interviewed only for 10 minutes..but everyone was interviewed for minimum of 15-20 minutes..So the duration of interview has nothing to do for your selection...

General Tips: First thing when you are for the interview you should know of yourself..The most general question in any interview is "tell me about yourself"... Be strong with your basics...Most probably you may be asked for favorite subject. So, you need to be it careful while picking up your subject...The thing is you need not answer all the questions but your answers should not mess up with basics...Answer with confidence the questions you know and at the same time be sincere to say "i don't know" when you don't know the answer...Never try to bluff the panel...Rather you can answer in such a way that the interviewer moves to a topic in which you are familiar. If you have have any projects or IT..you should have thorough knowledge of them.Don't panic if you don't have any projects but if you have see that you are well prepared in that...(i did not have any project except IT) Be careful while answering HR questions..they may ask questions like "what would you do if we do not offer you job" It's better to say them that i would try through off campus ...that shows your loyalty.Do not disclose any of your B school plans or GRE plans even they ask for it.say them that you are interested in job and not in further studies...You can refer to net for many HR questions asked in interview... You should have knowledge of the company you are going to attend before hand. That helps you a lot.. For EEE guys you better read PSP and Power Systems thoroughly before going to interview One last thing is that the interviewer asks if you hava any questions..then try to ask some questions rather than saying no questions..ask some relevant questions.. K guys bye...all the best for your future career

1 Interview Round

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Shortlisting was done on the basis of CGPA (mine was 9.38).There were 7 members in the interview room. All were friendly but the HR guy was staring at me.It was totally a nice experience. My interview was at 10.30 PM in the night .I entered the room with full of energy and a big smile on my face. They were very impressed by the way I presented myself in the interview, especially the way I replied when they asked '”Tell me about yourself and family background?””.””HR really matters”” because u need to give them a vivid picture of your 20 years life experience in few sentences. But there was one thing I felt would have been better if I had not done done that in the interview. When they asked me “”Which company would you choose NTPC or BHEL?””I replied ”” obviously NTPC because if I have to apply all the concepts and knowledge I have acquired in these 4 years, I strongly feel that NTPC is the right opportunity and moreover BHEL is just a manufacturing company”” Well what's wrong in this reply. There was one word that made a difference. Can u guess what it is...””JUST””…No sooner did I gave that reply than almost all the panel members said in unison that…..””u say it’s JUST a manufacturing company ( stressing on the word just)……if there is no BHEL then there is no NTPC………”” ……..then I tried to cover that saying……..””I just meant that BHEL is a part of the story while NTPC is the main story itself”.”But my overall performance dominated this small mistake I made,we tend to make mistakes, they don’t expect you to be ideal.I wanted to share this particular conversation with all of you so that it might be helpful to you.

General Tips: Be confident.Have a brief outlook on all the topics u have covered in academics.Give replies with a innocent and a cute smile whenever required……””A SMILE CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE””…..If you do not know the answer frankly reply saying“”I DO NOT KNOW””.I have done the same when they asked me about wind energy frequency control. Don’t get tensed and do not give one word answers.Give short and sweet replies ALL THE BEST

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The selection for interview will be made based on your cgpa in the class. There was only one round of interview in
which HR and technical was combined.
Duration: 10 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Few questions about motors and machines as i said that my topic of interest are electrical machines and power
system. In machines I was asked:- Name different machines and diff motors and their uses. In power system
protection about the different kinds in which power system can be protected. Then evolution of relays from
beginning till now and what was tried to achieve in this development of relays(ans- selectivity, sensitivity, reliability,
fast operation). The time elapsed from the point when fault is sensed by relay till the circuit breaker opens.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I was asked to tell about my background. Then my weight n power of lens. I was asked that do I read newspaper
and was asked few GK questions.. viz; chief minister of WB, AP, governor of AP, Vice president of india. my hobbies
etc..First of all I was fully tensed before I entered the room but I tried to be calm and composed. as HR round started then I said about my background for 2-3 mins. Still I was tensed and then few GK questions added to my tension as I could'nt answer a couple of them. Then technical round started and I answered few questions correct and was confused in answering a couple of them..So I said that sir I'm confused and forgot the answers and told them the theory for that answer. Then it got over in 10 min and till last I was tensed and then I quietly moved out with a smile on my face.

General Tips: Don't get excited and don't refer any book/notes when you are going to enter the room. Be calm and cool and don't show attitude inside the interview room. If u don't know anything then just say sir I can't recall now or forgot.Have a smile on your face when the panel members crack a joke on you. Speak slow but be to the point and make your sentences catching.
PS :- interview is just a discussion between the people whom you don't know. It just tests more of your character and a bit of your technical knowledge.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: No written test.Short listed based on resume and cgpa. Most of the questions asked were practical based and of general type. They did not ask me about my favourite subject or so but concentrated on power system and its protection, they did not ask any questions on my project also, but one should be well prepared with their project too.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They first asked about family background,my studies till I joined NITW and few things which I mentioned in my
resume.Panel members were friendly, they started with HR interview to make you feel calm and comfortable and later with technical questions, there were 6 panel members taking interview, few for HR and few for technical.

General Tips: Be confident while answering the questions, know about the company properly, don't just prepare one subject, give importance to all subjects and basics of it.If they ask about your favorite subject, be ready to say atleast 2 or 3 subjects rather than single subject. On top of all maintain good cgpa.
