Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Initial shortlisting by ABB for the written test was very strange. They selected top 10 from both ECE and Electrical .But from computer science and Mechanical they selected random guys for written test. I believe there was some middle range of pointers was selected for those 2 branches. There selection procedure was very lengthyInitially there was a written test conducted at our college by their executives. It was completely technical and no aptitude question was asked. So it was different for all branches

Round: Test
Experience: For ECE written consisted of mainly power electronics, Circuit Theory, Digital Electronics and Basics of electrical and Very few questions from communication. There written mainly consisted of the topics of engineering on which they have business verticals. The difficulty level was not much but the topics were very wide spread. To me it felt like that they have almost covered each semester of ECE in their written. For those who are preparing for GATE the written will be like piece of a cake. After the written result was announced on the basis of a national cutoff as they visited all the colleges on the same day. Then the candidates who cleared the written round were asked to report at their Faridabad Premises.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: After 1 week we went to their office. Where first and most difficult round was Technical interview. thorough questions were asked from technical point of view. It was expected as ABB is known as a technical company. The interviewer was showing deep interest in your resume and was scanning it very carefully. For me almost each line of my resume was discussed. Trainings were considered very important by them so there was a lot of questions asked regarding it also. On an average technical round lasted for 1 hour for every candidate. This was most crucial part as those who clear this round were allowed to appear in rest of the rounds till the end. Screening rate for this round was very low.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: After technical interview we had lunch. After lunch HR round started. There was a case study on a business concept which was followed by presentation for the same. For presentation there were no PPTs but a white chart was given along with different colors to each candidate and everyone was asked to do it in a way that they want. This was followed by a HR interview which was almost 1.5 hours for each candidate. All the questions were asked on your personal life and they will cover everything from your girlfriend to your college life. Only tip I can give you on this is be very true as there questions are very well connected.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Final round was a group discussion. In this a random topic was given and we were asked to discuss about it for 45 minutes. The topic for our group was greenhouse effect. Everybody was given equal chance to speak and express himself. After this the feedback was taken and that was the end of interviews after 8 consecutive hours. The thing I noticed is that they really give a lot of importance to both managerial and engineering skills. So its not that you should be very good in both but yeah you should know well.
