4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: It is a standard psychometric test which asks you questions about your personality. There are 4 statements in each set and you are asked whether or not you agree with the given statements.
Tips: Be honest while answering the questions as quite a few of them are reworded and repeated over the course of the test.

Round: Test
Experience: The first test puts you in the shoes of a Shell graduate and presents 4 potential responses to a situation, of which you have to rate each one on a scale of highly productive to counter productive and mark the options which you are most and least likely to employ.

The second test is a standard data interpretation based aptitude test where you have to answer 16 questions in 18 minutes. The questions take a good amount of time to complete, so a bit of practice on data interpretation is recommended before attempting the test.
Tips: Shell's website has example questions for each round of tests, it is recommended that you go through the questions once to familiarize yourself with the kind of questions asked.

Round: E-Tray Case study
Experience: This round places you as a manager on a Shell project in a fictional region. You are given a set of documents

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I took suggestions about the basic format from my father and sister. Once I made my resume, I got it checked by one of my teachers. It is advisable to limit the document to 2 pages. Among other things, your first page should have academic achievements or extra-curricular achievements depending on which is more impressive, and depending on the target company. PPTs are an invaluable source of information for the HR part of the interview. In their PPTs, companies generally indicate what skills they are looking for from applicants. These will come in very handy in answering questions like - Why should we hire you? or What qualities of yours suits our company's requirements? Also, you get to know a lot about the company and its USP. This helps you in questions like Why do you want to join our company? This is especially useful for students of branches like civil, mining, and metallurgy seeking jobs in the software industry. Did you talk to anyone on how to choose jobs/companies? In what way. I just appeared in the companies that came first. Since these companies were excellent in their respective fields, I have no regrets in sitting for them. Apart from that, since our institute gives us the liberty to take more than one job, choosing jobs is not such a big dilemma.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: I only went through the puzzle sets of previous years placement papers. I suppose soft copies of these papers are in circulation in colleges.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: We had to study the given case within a certain time limit. After that, we had to give an oral presentation, and there was an exhaustive discussion with the interview panel on the presentation.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: It was a slightly modified form of a GD, but normal GD mantras hold good.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It was a long and exhaustive interview based a technical project that you have done. This round is purely technical, so your project had better be good.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Shell had a rigorous procedure that was divided into 2 sessions separated by about 3 weeks. The first was a general group discussion (non-technical) and general HR interview (for candidates shortlisted from GD). The interview was very different in that we were asked to speak on a particular topic (like I was asked questions about transportation) and the interviewer, by cross-questioning you, would extract every bit of information that you know about the topic. Selected students advanced to the second session.
Tips: Decent communication skills and Good technical project

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: You will get numerous help from Google and also many workshops those are held before Placements.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: For GD its a group work. Come up with a group involving people from you Hostel wing mates or departmental mates. Take any recent topic (non-political) and talk among yourselves.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: For interview you will get some soft copy titled "64 Interview Questions", go through that and also attend the class held by IMS b4 placement.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: They held a 3 phase of selection with an elimination round after 2 phase. 1st phase: They provide with a case study of 20-25 pages with 60 min of time. After that we are called for an interview session where one has to place 5 min verbal presentation on the case study. Then rest 20-25 min they will ask question on it. 2nd phase: Interview session on submitted project work (your BTEch/Mtech/Summer Internship) a week ago. Mainly on your managerial skills nothing technical. Then there will be elimination round followed by a GD. Then comes the final results.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Stick to only those stuff which you can explain well, right or wrong. Can attend PPT as it gives you insight as to what the company wants from you. This certainly helps in the interview.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Its GD funda was a bit different. It wanted us to allow others to speak as well apart from making your point even if the counter part was fucking dul. But this really paid as it was so in one of my GD.

Skill Tips: Go through the companies site in which you are going to apply.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Whatever you write in your resume, you should be ready to defend it 100%.Resume should be company specific. Yes, I attended and gained from them too. While attending them one should look for two things 1. Are you sitting for the right job? 2. And if you are running for it, then what exactly the company is looking for. I didn't talk to anyone but it certainly helps in a way that you can't know everything in an hour PPT.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: I can't help much in this regard as I didn't do anything specific, just the common things like reading newspapers, magazines, novels etc. Yes, there was a GD course in our curriculum. That helped a lot. For interview/GD/Test preparation did you prepare in groups or individually? Which one do you think helps the most? Both in a group and individually. Both help.

Skill Tips: Apart from preparation, have faith in yourself.
