Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The app I had to fill for ITC was really really very intensive. It took me quite some time to just come up with what I could write in my app.
Tips: But have patience while writing your app, be honest (however you can tone it up, but being within limits of genuineness). Write it preferably when you are relaxed and don't do it in a haste. It does really matter what you write in your app sometimes.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: My group overall was a very decent one. We performed well as a team. And almost everybody could and did speak really well.
Tips: I personally feel it doesn't matter much as to who begins or concludes a GD. Just that whenever you get to speak, be logical and make sense. Your contribution should help in driving the group towards a conclusion. Avoid redundant reiteration of points already been made and try to be systematic, as in have a proper plan that helps finish your discussion in time and speak it out loud if you have one.Speak or refute a person only when you have a solid point and be very very polite and considerate.
Duration: 25 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Went very peacefully, without much stress, without any load, just went on talking in the flow and seemed to have got over in a flick.
Tips: Be smiling always. Even if you are nervous, don't let it be apparent, fake confidence. Believe me it really helps! Apart from that, be honest and more importantly be yourself. It's really as simple as that!

Duration: 2
College Name: IIT Madras
Funny Moments: My first interview begins with the interviewer commenting on the way I was dressed and tells me that it was so impeccable and that he feels ashamed to sit in front of me. And then some more general and somewhat fun questions, just to make me feel comfortable.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: They shortlisted pretty much everyone who took a probability course.
Tips: Well, take a probab course.

Round: Test
Experience: This was an Online test, consisting of questions from logical reasoning and probability. IMHO, it was very easy to score full marks in the test, but i am not very sure if they considered it for the final interview shortlist.
Tips: Brush up on probability, esp inferential statistics et al.
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Questions: 30

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The usual Run-Me-Through-Your-Resume happened. I found the interview very interesting and quite challenging. It first started with a simple question in combinatorics, the interviewer kept adding incremental questions to the first problem until it became something interesting,a Poisson process, afaik.

They also asked me to calculate square roots of certain numbers by hand correct to 3 decimal places.
Tips: Think out loud. And clarify your queries as they come. I asked for a few hints then and there, and they obliged. I think they look at your thinking process more than the mistakes you commit during the interview, which may simply arise due to fear and/or lack of confidence.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This was a standard puzzle question.I told them I had seen this before so they modified it a little, and i used back tracking to arrive at the answer.
2-3 small puzzles later, they asked me about my previous internships, esp about one which was in the domain of ML and Computer Vision. They asked me what problems i faced and how i over came them.
After this, they started telling me about the profiles available, they asked me if I had any questions for them. The interviewers were very friendly, and they were sharing some anecdotes as well.
Tips: Pay attention to the PPT/Profile Summary document/Campus Talk. If you are interested in Analytics, its better to do some project or internship in that area, before hand, a small reality check to gauge your interest in Analytics. They ask for a knowledge of Python/SAS/Hive/Excel. Do mention if you have used any of these at some point of time to handle big data or to do data processing.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This was the final interview, though the order isn't always followed. They asked me about my life before college and now. Asked me about my peer group, professors, environment in general.
Some personal questions followed. And, finally they asked me for a location preference, and that was it.
Tips: Well, just talk naturally.

General Tips: Dress formally. And keep a smiling face.
Skills: Maths(esp Probability), Basic Aptitude Topics Like Combinatorics
Duration: 2
College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: Their profile was good based on feedback from seniors, and I was interested in the field, so I applied.
