Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Almost the entire group went off topic confusing commercialisation with privatisation. Inspite of HR manager's intervention regarding misinterpretation , group continued with privatisation.
Tips: Technical firms are not expecting high level of GD & communication skills (except when the profile demands so) . You are expected to atleast be able to keep your view point with some logical support.
If you are able to raise 2-3 points in a polite way , you are highly likely to be selected.
If the GD you are appearing is for a profile like marketing , sales or where end to end interaction matters much , u need to be highly skillfull at your communication.

Skill Tips: You must be able to relate your text book knowledge with the practical world. Focus on the applications of whatever you study.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: They just shortlisted candidates based on 10th, 12th, JEE rank and CGPA.

Round: Test
Experience: Test was easy. Indiabix is enough for that. In subjective round, Questions were like Why Axtria? What do you know about Axtria? Plan for higher studies etc. One question was compulsory which was Have you ever worked in a team, what problems you faced, how you cope up with that and what was the outcome?

Tips: Speed matters in test as subsections are time constrained.
Duration: 100 minutes
Total Questions: 100

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Questions were basically resume based. They were very friendly. Some questions were from SQL and databases.
Tips: Just stick to yourself and be confident.

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: First was the verbal section. You have to use the words and phrases given to write an email or letter or else given.Take care about the grammatical errors.Take 3-4 minutes to think and then write it fast.Minimum word limit is given.Follow the format of the thing you are given to write.
Analytical section comprised of 30 questions.Well the questions were difficult than previous years but some were too easy also.If you have prepared for aptitude then that's well but if then don't panic.Maximum Questions can be solved just by using your brain.

Main Topics to concentrate more for aptitude:
1. Work and Time
2. Profit and Loss
3. Permutation and Combinations.
4. Geometry

Some sample questions like :
1. In a given triangle ABC, AB=17.5, AC=9. D is a point on BC such that AD is perpendicular to BC. Find the radius of the circle circumstanding in the triangle ABC. (I am not sure about the exact number but the approach is to use Pythagoras theorem to find AD so that we can find the radius)
2. Find the next number in a given pattern ( series type question) ( Some AP sequence was given)
3. Three unit circle inscribed in a circle. Find the area of the largest circle. (some measurement was given and its easy to solve. Please spend some time to learn Geometry section)
4. Some questions based on men and work type (wages calculation questions and its easy)
5. Find last two digits of ( a^b) + (c^d)
eg : (1021^3921)+ (3081^3921)
6. Sum of three digit number is 17. sum of squared of digits of the given numbers is 109. If we subtract 495 from that numbers we will get a number written in square order. Find the numbers.
Duration: 90 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Interview will be of 2 or 3 rounds depending upon the quantity of candidates. We had two rounds.
First was mixture of HR and Technical. Tell him the programming language which you are strong in a diplomatic manner when asked. They will ask you questions from that part only. Don’t say what you can't answer.
I said Java and C and they asked questions from that part only.

2nd round was just a time pass. They read my resume and asked my achievement in life.It can be personal or professional. That's over with interviews.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The online test had two sections. First had simple objective aptitude questions.
The other section had coding problems.
There were 4 questions.
Two were adhoc problems.
In the other two we had to add code to solve the problem.

I did well in the objective section and did 3 of the coding problems.
Duration: 180 minutes

Round: Test
Experience: We were given code of n-queen problem which had some errors in it.

We were given the task to correct the code and explain it.

I did it well in time.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Test
Experience: In this round we were given a problem statement.
What we had to do was to implement a client and server side.
Basic code was given.

What we had to do was to implement code that could detect message alteration or if there was a packet drop.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This round went for almost 2 hours.
It was more of a discussion. It was on the developer's coding round. The interviewer was very cool. He tested all my knowledge about networking. The discussion on the software model went on and he kept on giving me more and more exception conditions which I had to solve for the problem.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This round also went for another 2 hours.
The interviewer asked me to pick any 2 of my projects and explain it to him.
After I explained the projects he gave me a question on DP.
It was also more of a discussion. I wasn't able to give him the correct answer in the end.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: It was a very cool round. He asked me to fill in a form and asked me if I had any queries about the company.
Then he asked me some basic HR questions. This round was like a formality not a elimination round.

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test wasn't too difficult but needed presence of mind. No extraordinary formulae or tricks needed.
Tips: Manage your time carefully. Many students failed to do well because they could not attempt all sections to their best.
Trust your instincts.
Duration: 45 minutes
Total Questions: 40

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The discussion period seemed a bit too long and the whole group(8 people) was running out of ideas to keep the GD going. So everyone tried to iteratively speak on the same aspects of the topic. The people who explored different dimensions of the topic and were able to present it adequately made it through.
Tips: Try being a leader and sway the GD on your whims.
Keep exploring the current topics so that you are not left hapless on hearing the topic. This is just a preventive measure.
Try exploring new dimensions of the given topic and prevent the discussion from becoming monotonous.
Duration: 20 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interview was a little longer than expected. The interviewer was really polite and supportive and the questions were not meant to undermine you. They wanted to check the logical and practical knowledge.
Tips: Stay confident.
Do not try to beat around the bush. Be blunt if you do not know something.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This interview basically extracted everything about me and being conducted through Skype, it was something of a new experience.
Tips: Stay confident at all times (which I apparently lost a couple of times and was pointed out).

Skill Tips: Have perfect preparation with at least two subjects of the core domain.
Skills: Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer
College Name: NIT Jalandhar
Motivation: I always wanted to be a part of a core company due to my interest in technical field which mostly developed after I took up Chemical Engineering.
Funny Moments: After the second round(cross panelling) of technical interview (which I hadn't expected because I thought the interview didn't have a second round), I realized I had spoken way more than required in the interview and maybe sounded way too nervous in the interview. Thats when the interviewers talked amongst themselves and one of them went on to saying" Yaar ye ladka bhot bolta hai"( This guy speaks a lot). Thats when I became a little conscious that I had even interrupted the interviewer a couple of times. Not too funny but yeah one of the few lighter moments.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: In the first round there was an online test. Questions were from aptitude, general English and a simple code( very simple if you have programming skills).
Tips: It was purely a knowledge based round so everything depends on your preparation level and a bit confidence.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: In technical round interview the process was like this...
I entered in room and greeted interviewer and he asked me to sit down. I handed over my resume to him. His first question was tell me about yourself. Then my projects. After that he came on programming, He asked me very basic concept about C++. Questions were like what is polymorphism, What is encapsulation. He also asked program of fibonacci series. After all these question he again looked at my resume and asked me 'why your CGPA is low?' I said that when i was in my first year i had interest in electronics but later when i encountered with programming i decided to have my career in this field so i could not concentrate on my core subjects.
Tips: C++ is '''''must''''' for Virtusa if you are from electronics . I didn't know data structure but c++ was on my fingers. Answer question with confidence.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: HR interview was really cool. Interview asked me about myself, my family, real life applications of my project. After that he came on real stuff. He asked question like why do you want to join virtusa? I said virtusa is this .. virtusa is this.....and many more..and in last i said this is i want to join virtusa. Next question was ' what do think about dowry?'. At first i was surprised to hear this question but i realized that interview only want to check my ability to speak on random topic. I answered the question by criticizing dowry and he was pleased to hear my answer. After one or two general HR question like location preference , he told me that your interview is over please wait outside for result. It was really nice to meet you . Thank you.
Tips: Never stop speaking in HR interview. They only check your ability to speak on random topics and their general HR question. I was continuously speaking ...please do not bother about grammar while speaking ...just speak with confidence(relevant).

General Tips: prepare c , c++ and ability to speak in front of interviewer.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: there were 20 mcqs and 2 coding questions. It was a pen and paper test. We were given 1 hour to solve it. The mcqs were of average difficulty. The 2 coding questions were:
1. A variation of the standard Josephus Problem
2. Find the 'x' largest elements from 'n' input elements without using sorting.
Tips: They focus on algorithms not on complete solutions. Do not leave any question unattempted. If you do not know the exact approach then use Brute-Force approach.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The Interviewer was very nice. He was focussing on the approach used not on codes.
Tips: Be calm and think by basics :)

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interviewer asked high level data structures in this round. But again he saw the approach used and not exact solution

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 30 MCQ questions testing basic logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, analytical skills.
2 coding questions --I skipped 1st that was a mistake as it was the easiest. Basic array adhoc question.
2nd-greedy algorithm based find number of platforms for a train schedule.
1 API coding on trie data structure. Functions were all there. Problem--Given a word with a letter missing...find and print possible words from the dictionary. for example--
Input- dristisofts 5
Output- drishtisofts
drisetisofts
1 debugging question-toughest of them all for me...2d-matrix find the rectangle with largest sum.
Tips: Basic Level of Questions for me. I never explicitly prepared for those. Doable.
Try both 1st and 2nd...they will be easy...C and java are only possible languages given so can't use stl.
API will be easy only lengthy...don't panic...
If you have time, you will try 4th.

Duration: 180 minutes
Total Questions: 34

Round: Test
Experience: Completely networking based problem. based on TCP protocol. packets are being dropped and changed find a way to stop it. I was able to pass all test cases. (they were having some internal problems with there test cases).
Tips: Exciting round. Use re-transmission and sequence id and hash coding. Focus on everything. Interviews will be based on these.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 1

Round: Test
Experience: N=4. find errors and generalise for N.
Tips: Easy-peasy.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 1

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Lovely experience. Duration -2hours. Interviewer was a chill guy. Interview started with some light moments and we discussed about my experience with the company I did my internship with. Then there was questioning about what I did in my API coding round. I was asked to explain point by point about how I understood the problem and how I solved it. Then he started grilling me on questions based on it. One by one questions were put in some way that I had to revisit everything what I learnt in my 2nd year about transmission protocol. Everything, starting with what was the hash code used to how the window size is decided and how to reduce traffic by sending cumulative ack.
Tips: Better prepare networking before coming. Everything, every exception.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I was asked to tell any two of my projects. And this is where I think I got an edge over others. My resume was filled with many projects and we discussed two of my most recent projects. I had learnt about Oauth protocol and RESTful APIs so we discussed about it. Then there was this problem about a company visiting for campus recruiting wanting to conduct a test on Hackerearth + what if lights went off and students want to continue where they had left --the problem was to design a databse based on these conditions and then some questions were asked on the database I had made. Finally there was an interview scheduling problem.50 students. 3 rounds(1->P1,P2 2->P2,P3 3->P4). design an algorithm to conduct the interviews taking minimum time to process all 50 students.
Tips: Prepare your projects and DBMS as well. Be confident, build approaches to tackle problems and try finding loopholes in it and then work on those. They will be focussing more on how you will tackle a general problem and not the solution.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Introductions with family background. Psychometric test. and then I was told to ask about the company. Interviewer was very cool.
Tips: Easy - peasy.

General Tips: Do away with any nervousness. The interviewers will be extremely friendly. Just do your best. If you know it, it isn't that hard. Hints would be given. They just test your approach and knowledge of the subject.
Skill Tips: TCP concepts and socket programming. Projects on that would be lovely.
Skills: Networking, DBMS
College Name: NIT Jalandhar
Funny Moments: The interview was held in guest rooms lying down on bed. I was even asked to take rest and sleep for an hour before interviews alongside their bed.
