No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?

In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

The best part of my teaching career was spent in Ravenshaw University, the premier institute of Odisha. Once I entered the holy campus I was in awe of it ! The exotic academic atmosphere was breathtaking. The sprawling palatial building was quite mesmerizing for me. When I started teaching there I found my students very attentive n very keen to learn more about English literature. My colleagues were very friendly, felt drawn towards their sweet intellectual talks. Overall my thrilling RU experience remains ever memorable. As I look back on my long 30+ career I do indeed consider that brief period as my crowning glory, unforgettable till my end !!
