It was good when R Subramaniam sir was there. After that, it has deteriorated since officials are focused on controlling the PMUs and micro-managing them. You get to work with state and district officials and travel to remote areas across many states with the implementation of the schemes. Good experience to enhance networking and communication skills. But this scope of work is also limited as per the mood of the ministry and NISD.

Dislikes

There is a great level of partiality at NISD and ministry. Extreme level of favoritism and protection to people who are upper castes and with connections are given responsibilities. The rules are different for each people depending upon how well you have buttered your superior and reporting officers. There is no culture. only culture of threatening young vulnerable contractual staffs. no efforts to make the office space a safe and secure place for women. Higher officials have protected and gone to extreme levels to defend their fellow bureaucrats and did injustice to some of my colleagues. The charge officials are even worse. continue to undermine you and your contributions because you raise some genuine concerns related to the nature of the job and the safety of women. You travel to the field with no social security and recognition of doing such intense late-night travels with no support from state officials. There is no medical insurance,no consideration for medical leaves. They might even terminate suddenly if you take leave for chicken pox, jaundice which you got infected with during travel. So if you are good at buttering you can survive even without no inspections.
