No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?

In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

It's the best company i have worked for, they founders / managing directors give full liberty to their employees to share their knowledge not like other arrogant founders. they understand that its not possible a single person to be an expert in all the segments. which makes it the best company. the culture is super progressive. knowledge of different tech is through the roof

1) The management is really good, they come from a tech background so they understand the challenges faced by developers 2) The process management for projects is really smooth, they have a predefined process setup with automation in place which makes reporting to client super easy 3) They don't see your degree or your past background. All that matters is skill set. even if you say that you have experience of 5+ years. they would want to see your hands on expertise with a projects [so you need to have hands on experience with projects, benched resources are identified very quickly] 4) Work life balance is very good, sometimes you have to be on call late night which is very rarely if their client ask for subject matter expert to be on the call

1) The management is really strong, by far the best management i have seen 2) You get to learn on so many things, different techs projects 3) They include you in client conversation and train you well to make an effective communication 4) Office outings & dinners. 5) If the management is visiting tech expo and its related to your tech, there is a higher chance they will take you with them (PS : those are international)
