Group dynamics is good ,with there being a friendly,family-like atmosphere ,resulting in work getting done very fast,even through word of mouth.The cases of people getting sacked is hence rare.For the sake of work ,travelling all over India,and especially to Kolkata is pretty common.The best part is that,since the office and home is situated within the same township,work-life balance is pretty good

Dislikes

The salary is not as good as other PSUs in the neighbourhood of Haldia. Job appraisal needs to be done more sincerely for proper motivation. Being an eastern Indian port,politics is pretty predominant.

Likes

The company is open for their customers / users who caters their products / goods from one place to another. KoPT/ HDC is an organisation that handles approx 20 MT of cargo every year. Another plus point is that this is the only riverine port in India. There are plus points like; staffs and officers are from different states of India with different culture and colleagues were helpful to each other. I welcome the move of the organisation for re-engagement policy of the employees working under HDC/KoPT on contract.

Dislikes

There are separate rules in the same organisation according to their departments. There are high deficit in the strength of employee and work pressure is very high.

Likes

It's an unique challenge and opportunity to work in Kolkata port being only riverine port in India servicing typical Breakbulk vessels, IWT vessels and container feeder vessels at KDS and large Dry bulk and Liquid Bulk vessels at HDC. Kolkata Port is IWT hub for entire North East, Assam, Bangladesh, Myanmar as well as for entire northern India , Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha connected by National Waterways.

Dislikes

Lack of recognition of good work by top and middle management. Poor personnel policy resulting in HR problems.Lack of rapport with Ministry for advancing career progression of their officers. Narrow APAR ratings for their own officers resulting in loss of opportunity for their officers to go for deputation and promotions to other major ports and ministry.
