The opportunity initially seemed promising a remote Oracle Database migration project within a SAP environment. The hourly rate was revised during the offer process to a higher amount than my current offer at the time, which I appreciated. Association with a well known end client added to project's appeal. Initial interview process was well structured and timely. The first two rounds were kind of techno-manegerial and conversational, while third round involved technical discussion with Database lead.

Dislikes

Poor onboarding & communication - On the scheduled joining day, communication from reporting DBA lead was vague and, at times, rude. During the interview itself, I sensed red flags due to frequent interruptions and cross questions without fully listening. Though I received access to outlook and teams early, the lead's attitude turned overtly dismissive and condescending from day one. Unprofessional conduct by DBA Lead: The lead failed to introduce himself or provide any context about his role or responsibilities. Without giving access to internal environments, documentation or ticketing tools, he assigned a task - drafting a complete document and run book on installing SAP RAC and RDBMS patching on 2 node Linux cluster. When i politely asked for the details of the task via email ( as proof of work in the abscence of system access), he responded harshly, and informed me he would not approve my timesheet for the day. Lack of Transparency in Billing policies: During onboarding, I was informed that billing would begin from Day one for 8 hrs / day. However on the very first day, the lead unilaterally decided that day's timesheet would not be approved. Nowhere in the onboarding or contract process was it mentioned that timesheet approval would be discretionary or based strictly on lead's approval. This left no guarantee of payment, creating an unprofessional and unethical scenario - essentially risking unpaid work based on induvidial bias. Toxic work culture: The lead's behavior created a hostile, demotivating atmosphere right before the start. The lack of professionalism, clear communication and empathy raised serious doubts about long term viability and team culture. After I respectfully conveyed that I could not continue in an enviroment lacking trust, transparency and professional conduct, my access to teams and outlook was revoked the very same day. There was no effort made to understand and provide any support or mediation regarding the lead's behavior, which further validated the issues I had raised.
