The day I found out my colleague earns 30% more for the same role
It was an accidental slip. A teammate mentioned her CTC while we were chatting casually. Same designation, same team, joined after me but her salary was almost 30% more. My stomach dropped. I spent days debating whether to bring it up. I didn’t want to come off as insecure or difficult. But I also couldn’t un-know what I knew. Eventually, I had an honest, data-backed conversation with my manager. Turns out, I was right and they revised my pay. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me this: silence doesn’t protect you. Companies run on numbers. If you don’t negotiate, you leave money on the table. Have you ever been in a similar spot? How did you navigate it?

I have been with the company for three and a half years now, but I haven't seen any salary increases, bonuses, appraisals, or other benefits during my tenure. Unfortunately, my hard work and dedication go unnoticed, and there seems to be poor decision-making at the management level. My immediate supervisor is less than ideal, and the HR and finance departments aren't very helpful. I've noticed that some employees receive preferential treatment by using flattery, while those of us who rely on our true skills and qualities don't get the recognition we deserve. Despite having strong leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, a proactive attitude, keen attention to detail, and a track record of getting the job done, these qualities seem to be undervalued in the company's culture. It's disheartening to see that only those who engage in flattery receive the spotlight. There is a widespread problem of groupism among the major communities, which significantly contributes to an unhealthy work culture.
