I had the opportunity to do my summer internship at Oil India Limited. It was a learning experience for me. My guide helped me throughout the project and taught me real life lessons which will be useful to me in the future.

The most interesting thing is about OIL is that they were drilling with 30 years old rigs with the most cost effective manner, being a shift in-charge on these rig was almost challenge for me, crew were so friendly and helpful during operational hard times. I was on contract so in terms of career growth, i have no words to say but ihave seen company regular employees have better life after 4 -5 years of their initial phase of job in OIL....Read More

Apart from professional aspects there are lot of local public issues which some time become so tensed which further leads to manhandling and site shutdowns. If a person who does not belong to local / non Assamese then dealing/surviving there would be tougher.

The working environment is dynamic and particularly in production engineering its a new experience every day. Working in the far flung oil producing locations is an excitement in itself. During my short stint of 2 years, I had the privilege of working alongside great mentors like Utpal Borah, JP Das, AK Gogoi to name a few. And someamazing NIT Silchar seniors and batch mates & others - Manash Mahanta, Abhijit Anand, Virendra Prasad, Abhishek Agarwal, Abhishek Daga, Souvik Sarkar, Reishang, Titbo, Debahuti, Migom, Siddharth, Samiron. The culture is WORK HARD & PLAY HARD. The Zaloni club evenings, Club Meet are memories I cherish.Enjoyed my stay at MTDC before getting posted at picturesque Digboi town. To pursue my masters I had to move out in 2013, tried for sabbatical at that point but since I had not served for a min. of 4 years I wasn't granted that. Honestly there was nothing to dislike about OIL. Ideally you would expect to be able to travel and explore new places, and I think that is the only limitation for a production job at OIL, wherein you would have to be stationed at the oil producing sites and their vicinity. And if you are mentally prepared for that trade off, then OIL an amazing place to start your career in operations.
