Nothing seems very negative. Extra workload sometimes be given to develop skills of students in new areas apart from syllabus so that they get good placements.

HODs behave like kings. In every department there is a nexus among the people who are working there for more than 12-15 years. They do not want to give exposure to the new joiner. If you are HOD favorite you will get a salary hike and promotion before the time. There is no role of the director HOD is the boss. if you resigned from the institute your colleague will treat you as a stranger. They will try to make HODs happy at any cost.
