I was working in Indian Army for the last 31 years (which is part of Ministry of Defence ) years in one of the best armies of the world where I learnt to be an accomplished and focussed professional with rich and extensive experience in administration,leadership,security,logistics,training and personnel management and retired in the rank of Colonel.During my service I travelled all over the country This is very fine organisation where I fine tuned my skills, I met people from all walks of life during service and learnt a lot

salary is very good but there is lack of growth

To be an Indian Army officer is not a job but its like a great life style with a lot of happiness, learning and camaraderie among officers and soldiers. The environment is apolitical, healthy and enriched with ethos and pleasant memories.

Dislikes

Autocratic and hegemonic attitudes. Average monetary compensation.

...ers &other personnel who lay their life willingly to provide us safety&comfort.As regards to salary &other benefits it is one of the best in Group A services.(if other unauthorised means are not taken in to account).Life is full of challenges, frequent postings but one start enjoying it.

Dislikes

Due to pyramidical structure promotion are not as good as other services ie IAS/IPS,it is high time Army changes its pyramidical structure and widen it.My article "Promotional Reforms in the Army "published in Hitvaad gives more details about it.But the kind of Izzat&respect an army officer gets,even the top brass of other services envy it.

In my opinion it is the best possible profession for a job seeker. There can not be any better organisation which can give you satisfaction in all walks of life. It gives ample opportunities to hard working and innovative thinkers. It teaches one the best possible lessons on HR and Management. In Army you get an opportunity to be a leader, a teacher, a pupil, a student, a mentor, a socialist, a welfare officer, an advocate, a judge. I would say you name a trade and Army provides one an opportunity to work in it. The best part is you come across people from all possible corners of the country and all possible cultures. The experience one gains out of this needs no explanation. Army also provides enough opportunities to travel and work abroad, exposes one to latest technologies, adventure, managing disasters etc. To sum up I can only say given another opportunity I will again join Army and would like to serve till my last breath.

Dislikes

Compensation though is decent but in comparison to bureaucrats it is quite less. Biggest problem is slower promotions and stagnation. The systematic downgrading of status of defense forces is also demoralizing
