The vision of a leading precision forging group with a global footprint was the basis for the creation of SONA BLW GROUP in 2008. Through the merger, the Sona Group became a truly global player and the SONA BLW GROUP moved to one of the leading groups in the precision forging business with production sites in three regions. We are using the global partnership to align our business activities to meet the requirements of our customers. The three operating regions are SONA BLW GROUP’s strength, in terms of production as well as culturally. The group combines the great heritage of European technology and market leadership with the dynamics of a quality leader in the Indian automotive industry. SONA BLW GROUP’s strategy is to continue to be one of the leading precision forges worldwide, to take an active part in our customers’ globalization strategies and to offer first class worldwide supply. In 1995 the Sona Group and Mitsubishi Materials signed a joint venture agreement to set up a manufacturing unit in India to produce warm forged bevel gears and synchronizer rings.The Sona Group owned 75% of the company while Mitsubishi Materials owned 25% and thus Sona Okegawa Precision Forgings was born. Mitsubishi Material Corporation brought the technology of warm forged near net shaped gears, while The Sona Group opened up the Indian automotive market for Sona Okegawa Precsion Forgings Ltd.The company has been a pioneer in the technology it has adopted over the years and grown steadily to capture a dominant market share in the automotive market in India. In the early 2000s, our founder Chairman (late Dr. Surinder Kapur) decided he wanted to be the largest producers (by volume) of automotive bevel gears in India. In 2008, The Sona Group acquired the forging division of Thyssen Krupp (who had earlier on acquired BLW the inventors of the warm forge technology). Sona Okegawa Precision Forging Ltd became the largest manufacturers of forged gears by acquisition. In 2017, Sona Group acquired the 25% share of Mitsubishi Materials thereby increasing its share from 75% to 100%. Sona BLW is a technology leader in its field. The group has 2 manufacturing plants in India, 3 manufacturing plants in Germany and 1manufacturing plant in the Hungary. With over 100 engineers in R&D and 12 active patents, the focus is to continuously develop new products for the customer. We strive to work closely with our customers so that we are able to keep up with the fast changing trends in the automotive industry. Our customers are in the passenger car business, heavy commercial trucks, as well as in the Off Highway space. As we grow across the globe, it is our endeavor to give back to the environment. With our efforts towards renewable energy through solar power, recycling of water, rain water harvesting and critical technology on heating and forging, we have been able to reduce per capita power consumption to a considerable extent.
