Hackers compromise Chrome extensions with 400,000+ users
- Hackers have compromised several popular Chrome extensions with hundreds of thousands of users, including an extension developed by Cyberhaven Inc., a cybersecurity provider.
- The cyberattack began with a phishing email to one of Cyberhaven's employees, leading to the hackers gaining access to the administrator account managing the extension.
- The malicious update distributed by the hackers contained code to steal sensitive information, including passwords and session tokens.
- Cyberhaven has taken measures to address the breach, including removing the malicious code, releasing a safe version of the extension, and conducting an investigation with Google's Mandiant cybersecurity unit.
