Stevie Ray Vaughan may have died some two decades ago, but G.H.S. still makes the Nickel Rocker electric guitar strings that gave him a distinct sound. The company is a leading manufacturer of strings for acoustic and electric guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos, and ukuleles. Its strings are made in the US and sold by retailers worldwide. The firm's Rocktron division produces electric guitar amplifiers. In addition, G.H.S.'s Sullivan-Palatek and Saylor-Beall subsidiaries manufacture air compressors. Founded in 1964, the company is owned and operated by the McFee family. Chairman Robert McFee bought G.H.S. in 1975 from the original founders: Gould, Holcomb, and Solko (whose initials form the company's name).
