AI Accelerators for Homomorphic Encryption Workloads
- Researchers from Georgia Tech, MIT, Google, and Cornell University have published a technical paper on leveraging ASIC AI chips for homomorphic encryption.
- Homomorphic encryption (HE) is a privacy-enhancing technique that allows computation on encrypted data, but it can result in high latencies.
- The researchers propose using existing ASIC AI accelerators, such as TPUs, to accelerate HE operations by converting HE primitives to AI operators.
- Their evaluation on a Google TPUv4 shows significant performance improvements compared to previous works using many-core CPUs and V100.
