BIS cracks down on ecommerce giants over non-certified products
- The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has conducted raids on warehouses of major ecommerce platforms, including Amazon and Flipkart, seizing thousands of uncertified consumer products.
- During the raids on Amazon warehouses in Lucknow and Gurugram, BIS officials confiscated toys, hand blenders, aluminium foils, metallic water bottles, PVC cables, food mixers, and speakers that lacked the mandatory BIS certification.
- At a Flipkart warehouse in Gurugram, operated by Instakart Services Pvt Ltd, authorities seized stainless steel vacuum-insulated bottles, toys, and speakers that failed to meet the required standards.
- The seized items include products from brands like Digismart, Activa, Inalsa, Cello Swift, and Butterfly. BIS has filed court cases against the company responsible for these non-certified products and has issued notices to major ecommerce platforms.
