CSH grew out of the Charity Entrepreneurship project, which seeks to fill the gap between evidence-based interventions and implementation. When we find a major challenge and a proven intervention that addresses it, we assemble a team, iteratively implement and refine the program, evaluate if the program is having the desired effect, and ultimately integrate our programs into public health systems. After 6 months and thousands of hours reviewing the literature on the most cost-effective and evidence-based global health interventions, our research team selected text-message reminders for vaccination as the most promising opportunity to save lives. Only 65% of Indian children receive the full schedule of vaccinations, and the country has more than one third of all unvaccinated children worldwide. As a result of this immunization gap, an estimated 1.2 million people in India die yearly from vaccine-preventable diseases. Charity Science Health’s mission is to expand immunization coverage across India by implementing an intervention proven to be effective: sending reminders to mothers when their children are due for vaccination.
