Planning for efficient unit functioning to assure quality patient care, theatre staffing, OR procedure scheduling and patient flow.
Oversees the daily operation of the Surgery Department (including pre-surgical scheduling, OR, same day surgery and sterile supply )
Leading a team of nursing staff in planning and coordination with clinicians, patients and other departments.
Supervise nursing and other clinical management staff, including, but not limited to, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and other related activities.
Creating an environment that will encourage retention of clinical employees.
Assisting and planning for delivery of optimum patient care that promotes an environment of excellence, focusing on providing quality care.
Coordinates and provides orientation, competency assessment and ongoing training
Provides supervision and assignment of surgery department staff.
Evaluates effectiveness of goals and standards of unit/department/hospital by participating in quality audits and plan/activities to achieve excellence.
Demonstrates personal/professional growth and competent nursing practice.
Directs the implementation of an effective ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of theatre functions.
Prepare and manage budgets, supervise staff and develop policies and procedures consistent with hospital objectives.
Maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations.
Establishing standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing theatre services.
Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, including documentation, and makes appropriate changes in nursing care delivery.
Ensures that the units equipment is well maintained and in working order at all times.
Ensures appropriate orientation, training and continuing education for personnel to maintain the level of competency of the staff.
Nurtures staff development through mentoring and role modeling, i.e., by promoting and facilitating competency based training and in-service.
Participation in staff education, staff meeting and other professional activities.
Conduct regular physical verification of hospital stocks, i.e. drugs, equipments etc.
