SRE Big Data DBA Ops

Join the Database Platform team, where youll play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability and modernization of mission-critical distributed database platforms. This role involves providing day-to-day support, enhancing platform functionality through DevOps practices, and collaborating with application development teams to optimize database operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Platform Support:

Manage Greenplum/Postgres environments, including software installation, patch upgrades, performance monitoring, user maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Perform database setup, educate users, and resolve performance-related issues.

System Optimization:

Tune database performance and improve SQL performance across critical systems.

Regularly enhance the functionality of database platforms through automation and DevOps best practices.

Collaboration:

Provide consultation and support to application development teams for database design, implementation, and monitoring.

Coordinate with infrastructure teams for hardware changes and database updates.

Operational Excellence:

Contribute to the creation of operational best practices, automation workflows, and training for L1 and L2 teams.

Ensure high availability through disaster recovery planning, HADR setups, and replication clusters.

Support 24x7 firm-wide distributed databases with rotational on-call weekend duties.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Educational Background:

Bacheloror Masterdegree in Computer Science , Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator (DBA).

Technical Expertise:

Green plum: Strong experience with version 6+; expertise in database design, Command Center, workload management, query tuning, and data loading using upload /external tables.

Postgres: Advanced knowledge of version 12+; experience in HADR/Replication Cluster setup and database administration tasks.

Proficiency in SQL tuning and database performance optimization.

Automation & Scripting:

Proficiency in Unix/Linux OS fundamentals, shell/ perl /python scripting, and Ansible for automation.

Cloud Platforms:

Familiarity with Azure or AWS architecture and infrastructure-as-a-service platforms.

Experience with Snowflake design patterns and migration workflows (preferred).

Disaster Recovery & High Availability:

Expertise in planning and coordinating disaster recovery principles, including backup/restore operations.

Experience with geo-redundant databases and third-party cluster managers like Patron/Golden Gate (preferred).

Additional Skills:

Strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Effective written and verbal communication to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

Exposure to data warehousing platforms.

Hands-on experience with modern cloud-based architectures and tools.

Prior experience with database security and kernel tuning for optimal performance.
