Job Description
Conduct a comparative study to assess the correlation between farming methods (trench vs. conventional)
and human-wildlife conflict in designated sugarcane fields.
Regularly monitor pre-identified plots for each farming type and document incidents of human-wildlife
interactions and crop damage, if any.
Set up and manage camera traps in selected trench farming and conventional farming plots, ensuring they
are properly maintained and positioned for effective monitoring.
Retrieve and catalog camera trap data to analyze wildlife activity, movement patterns, and any indicators of
conflict.
Conduct structured interviews and questionnaire surveys with local farmers to gather information on
experiences, perceptions, and the effectiveness of trench farming in reducing conflict.
Record and compile qualitative data on human-wildlife interactions, and the behavioral response of local
communities toward trench farming versus conventional methods.
Maintain organized records of field observations, survey responses, and any wildlife activity detected in the
plots.
Perform preliminary data analysis to identify trends in human-wildlife conflict based on visual evidence
from camera traps and insights from farmer surveys.
Use statistical tools and software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R) to assess the frequency and impact of wildlife
interactions in trench farming versus conventional plots.
Document and synthesize findings in regular progress reports, highlighting any significant patterns or
correlations observed.
Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing research outcomes, including data visualizations, analysis, and
recommendations for conflict mitigation.
Present findings and insights to the WTI team and project leaders, contributing to ongoing discussions and
decisions for scaling trench farming or exploring alternative conflict mitigation strategies.
Work closely with WTI project managers, local field officers, and community stakeholders to ensure
accurate data collection and foster cooperation among local farmers.
Build a positive rapport with farmers and local communities, promoting understanding and transparency
around project goals and data collection methods.
