Job Description

A Project Manager/Deputy Project Manager for an infrastructure irrigation, tunnel, and dams company is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the successful planning, execution, and completion of various large-scale construction projects. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, management skills, and strong leadership abilities to handle complex projects within budget, on time, and to the required specifications. Below is a detailed list of job responsibilities for this role:
1. Project Planning and Coordination

  • Develop Project Plans: Create detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resources needed for the completion of infrastructure, irrigation, tunnel, and dam projects.
  • Define Project Scope: Work with clients, stakeholders, and technical teams to define the project scope and ensure alignment with overall business goals.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure the effective allocation of resources (personnel, equipment, materials) to meet project milestones.

2. Budget Management and Cost Control

  • Estimate Costs: Prepare cost estimates for all aspects of the project, including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Monitor Budget: Regularly monitor project expenses to ensure the project remains within budget and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality and performance.

3. Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Supervise Project Teams: Manage, guide, and mentor the project team members, including engineers, contractors, and other professionals.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain continuous communication with stakeholders, clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to ensure project alignment and resolve issues.
  • Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews for team members and contractors, providing feedback and ensuring high performance.

4. Risk Management and Safety Compliance

  • Risk Identification: Proactively identify potential project risks related to timelines, resources, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement Risk Mitigation Plans: Develop and implement risk management plans to reduce or avoid delays, cost overruns, and safety hazards.
  • Safety Standards Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental laws. Organize safety training and inspections.

5. Quality Control and Assurance

  • Oversee Quality Standards: Ensure that the project adheres to the specified quality standards for materials, construction methods, and final deliverables.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct regular site inspections and facilitate testing to confirm quality compliance.

6. Scheduling and Timeline Management

  • Create Detailed Schedules: Develop comprehensive schedules that outline all project phases, including milestones and deadlines.
  • Monitor Progress: Track the progress of construction and address any delays or obstacles to ensure the project remains on track.
  • Coordinate Phases of Construction: Ensure smooth coordination between different stages of the project, such as excavation, foundation work, concrete pouring, and structural construction.

7. Contract Management

  • Negotiate Contracts: Work with legal teams to negotiate contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage Subcontractors: Oversee the performance of subcontractors and vendors to ensure that their work meets project specifications and deadlines.
  • Resolve Contract Disputes: Address any contractual issues or disputes that arise during the course of the project.

8. Permits and Regulatory Compliance

  • Obtain Necessary Permits: Work with local authorities to obtain permits and approvals required for construction, including environmental permits for dam and irrigation works.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure the project complies with all relevant regulations, including environmental impact assessments, local laws, and industry standards.

9. Progress Reporting and Documentation

  • Provide Regular Updates: Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and stakeholders, outlining project status, milestones achieved, budget updates, and any issues.
  • Maintain Project Documentation: Ensure all project documentation, including contracts, permits, reports, and communications, is accurately maintained and archived.

10. Problem Solving and Issue Resolution

  • Address Challenges: Identify and resolve issues related to resource shortages, delays, design problems, and conflicts on the project site.
  • Manage Unexpected Changes: Handle any changes in scope or design that may arise during the project and adjust timelines and resources as necessary.

11. Post-Construction and Handover

  • Final Inspections: Oversee the completion of the project, ensuring all work is finalized to meet specifications and that any defects are addressed.
  • Project Handover: Facilitate the handover of completed projects to clients, ensuring all documentation, warranties, and maintenance instructions are provided.
  • Post-Project Evaluation: Conduct post-project reviews to assess what went well, what could be improved, and to capture lessons learned for future projects.

12. Client Relations

  • Client Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with clients, providing regular updates and resolving concerns throughout the life of the project.
  • Post-Project Support: Ensure ongoing client support after the completion of the project, particularly for long-term maintenance or warranty issues.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
  • Experience: Extensive experience (typically 15-18 years) managing large-scale infrastructure projects such as dams, tunnels, or irrigation systems.
  • Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, project management software, and construction best practices.
  • Leadership: Ability to manage large teams and coordinate multiple stakeholders with a strong emphasis on leadership and decision-making.

  1. Irrigation Minor Irrigation: Having 5+ exp. in a Managerial Position in Water Retaining Structures like Earthen/Concrete Dams /Canals/Aqueducts/Tunnels/Spillways/Waste Weirs.

Locations: Raigad, Sindhudurg, Hingoli, Jamshedpur

  1. Coastal Infrastructure: Having 5+ exp in a Managerial Position in Coastal infra like Breakwaters, Jettys, Anti Sea Erosion Bunds, Tetrapod’s, Groynes Bund & Dredging, offshore reclamation.
