Summer Internship - Capability development for Rapid and POC Diagnostics Prototyping facility

This internship offers an exciting opportunity to carry out groundwork for establishing a Rapid Diagnostic Prototyping facility and involves identifying, assessing and recommending the essential infrastructure, expertise, partnerships and connects required for its set up.

Focus areas: LFA Development, Microfluidics-based diagnostics, Microfabrication techniques for rapid prototyping, Reference testing and Regulatory frameworks for rapid diagnostics

Key responsibilities:

Facility Development for Point-of-Care (PoC) diagnostics
- Understanding state-of-the-art techniques for the development of LFA and paper-based diagnostics
- Understanding of the types of paper-based sensors and patterning techniques
- Identification of the materials required for the fabrication of rapid PoC diagnostics
- Mapping of existing capabilities of Venture Center and assessment of the infrastructural and innovation support requirements for supporting startups in paper-based and rapid PoC diagnostics
Development of Microfluidic capabilities for diagnostics applications
- Understanding and evaluation of the state-of-the-art microfabrication techniques
- Mapping existing capability at Venture Center and building capability roadmap to set up microfluidic device fabrication facility and innovation support capabilities
Capability roadmap for reference testing and validation
- Evaluation of frameworks for the testing and validation of PoC diagnostics
- Identification of the sources and connects for access to biological reference and calibration standards, and gold-standard assays
- Development of a capability roadmap to support diagnostic-specific startups with reference testing and validation
Mapping of innovation support ecosystem
- Integration of prototyping/fabrication, regulatory and reference testing requirements for capability development
- Identification of key stakeholders (experts, investors, KOLs, industries, service providers, material suppliers, partners)
- Understanding of regulatory pathway and quality compliances for PoC diagnostics
- Mapping funding and investment opportunities to support startups in PoC diagnostics
- Identification of startups that can benefit from this facilities
- Recommendations on training programs and events for startups in PoC diagnostics
