Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (CSDE): enables underprivileged youth to lead flourishing lives
Centre for Social Innovation (CSI): To make entrepreneurship a sustainable source of livelihood to enable urban households to come out of poverty

About the Program
NEST aims to accelerate the entrepreneurial journey of early-stage livelihood-related organizations. It assists them in progressing to the next phase of growth by providing a conducive working environment, enhancing visibility within the ecosystem, and facilitating access to various learning and development platforms. Additionally, the product serves as a central hub for hosting events, conferences, and training sessions within the livelihood ecosystem.

Who are we solving for?
  • Early stage livelihood related non-profit organizations and social enterprises
  • Livelihood ecosystem players looking affordable and best-in-class place to organize events
  • Local chapters of global foundations active in livelihood space
  • Subject matter experts / professional services providers catering to impact sector
  • Tech Entrepreneurs planning a foray into livelihood space

What are we solving for?
India has made significant progress in reducing poverty over the past two decades, lifting more than 400 million people out of poverty since 2005. However, despite these strides, challenges persist, with 14.96% of the population still experiencing multidimensional poverty, as reported by Niti Aayog. Social enterprises play a crucial role in addressing these challenges and supporting livelihood improvement efforts.

In recent years, the number of social enterprises in India has surged, estimated at around 2 million, showcasing the growing commitment of entrepreneurs to tackle access and affordability issues faced by low-income and underserved communities. This sector is expanding rapidly, with entrepreneurs focusing on areas such as skill development, education, healthcare, WASH, and agriculture, among others.

Despite their efforts to create positive change, social entrepreneurs often encounter hurdles in scaling their impact. Many operate without a supportive community or physical ecosystem tailored to their needs. Instead, they often rely on cafes, bars, or restaurants for meetings, lacking affordable and functional office spaces. This situation leads to a significant portion of their time being spent on non-core administrative tasks. Additionally, limited access to essential support services like legal, financial, HR, and tech support hinders their growth. Without adequate advisory, especially in legal and financial matters, they may make costly mistakes that are challenging to rectify. Moreover, fragmented avenues for connecting with donors and advisors/board members pose significant bottlenecks at both early and growth stages of their ventures.

NEST emerges as a comprehensive solution designed to address these challenges specifically for social entrepreneurs operating in the livelihood space. Its primary objectives include:
  • Providing affordable, top-notch co-working spaces for social entrepreneurs.
  • Establishing a central hub in Bangalore for all livelihood ecosystem activities.
  • Fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Creating physical and digital spaces for like-minded individuals to collaborate and interact.
  • Offering a platform to connect entrepreneurs, donors, and advisors.
  • Facilitating capacity building for early-stage organizations and entrepreneurs.
  • Providing subject matter expertise through a shared services model.
  • Showcasing inspirational stories in resilient livelihoods and offering immersive experiences.
  • Cultivating a lively and engaging workplace through cultural and social activities.

What are some of the principles/ approaches we use?
  • First principles thinking
  • Human centered design (thoughtful, action oriented, experimental & iterative process) with a gender lens (unbiased and reflective approach)
  • Systems thinking (analytical, stakeholder oriented and holistic)
  • Strategic planning (result oriented, logical & coherent with clearly defined outcomes, grounded on the current realities)

What will you do?
  • Own the end-to-end research, product design, and development of the product to meet its stated goals
  • Drive innovations, conduct targeted pilots and iterations to improve the product market fit
  • Design and execute outreach campaigns both for co-working space users and event space users
  • Own day to day operations and interaction with the real estate partner providing managed services for the space
  • Work closely with our program partners and all key stakeholders (internal and external - partners, thought leaders, entrepreneurs)
  • Manage overall P&L for NEST
  • Work closely with the go-to-market team at The/Nudge for fundraising efforts
  • Work closely with Finance team for legal and compliance matters

Who are we looking for in this role?
  • 12+ years of work experience in entrepreneurship, general management, branding and marketing, and business development; experience in managing P&L preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to learn continuously and collaborate with stakeholders in a space of ambiguity (0 to 1 journey of product development)
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • passion and hunger for promoting entrepreneurship in the impact sector
  • Comfortable with rolling up the sleeves manage the program with a small team
