Anesthesia Team Lead Job Description

The Anesthesia Team Lead plays a critical role in overseeing the accurate coding of anesthesia services within a multi-specialty healthcare environment. This position requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines, anesthesia terminology, and the ability to lead a team effectively to support billing and compliance.

What You Will Do:

• Lead and mentor a team of coders, ensuring accurate assignment of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for anesthesia and surgery services.
• Review clinical documentation to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations, facilitating proper billing.
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding queries.
• Provide floor support and assistance to coders during transitions, fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Conduct spot check audits to ensure adherence to guidelines and quality standards within the team.
• Cascade client and coding updates to the team in a clear and understandable manner.
• Participate in client calls and meetings to address coding-related matters and provide insights.
• Deliver regular updates through monthly coding articles, newsletters, and other educational resources to enhance the teams knowledge and expertise.
• Maintain high professional and ethical standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
• Drive projects that enhance revenue integrity and ensure compliance with industry standards.

What You Will Need:

• 8 to 10 years of experience in Medical Coding, specifically in Anesthesia and Surgery.
• Strong domain knowledge and working experience in the listed specialties.
• AAPC or AHIMA certified coding certifications.
• At least 1 year of experience in a team leader role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate excellent interpersonal, listening, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-oriented setting.
• An ownership mindset regarding project deliverables, ensuring they are never compromised.
• Flexibility to work in shifts to meet productivity and client requirements.

What Would Be Nice to Have:

• Knowledge of denial management.
• Familiarity with medical coding and billing systems, regulatory requirements, and auditing principles.
