Software Development Engineer Test

We are seeking a top-performing, versatile, and passionate Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with over 7 years of extensive experience in software testing for an open position in our Content Engineering department, where we curate all the tax content needs for various Avalara product suites. The ideal candidate will have solid expertise in big data, cloud technologies (especially AWS), web applications, and API test automation, primarily utilizing Python or Java.

As a Senior SDET, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of automated test solutions to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our software products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define test strategies, develop test plans, and execute automated tests in CI/CD environments. Additionally, as a gracious presenter and communicator, you should be capable of building strong relationships with peers, partners, and leadership.

1. 7+ years of experience in software testing, with a focus on automation engineering.
2. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
3. Proficiency in Python and/or Java programming languages for test automation, with demonstrated experience in developing robust, scalable automated test suites.
4. Extensive experience in testing cloud-based applications, with specific expertise in AWS cloud services and technologies.
5. Strong understanding of data modeling principles and experience with testing big data systems.
6. Solid understanding of API testing principles and experience with developing and executing API test automation using industry-standard tools and frameworks.
7. Proven ability to work effectively in Agile environments, collaborating closely with development teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
9. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with a track record of driving quality improvements in software development processes.
10. Ability to lead conversations, including senior management, and take on key roles independently while working with management and cross-teams.
