Anesthesiologist

Job Summary:

An Anesthesiologist is responsible for administering anesthesia, monitoring patient responses during surgical procedures, and ensuring pain management before, during, and after surgery. They work closely with surgeons, critical care teams, and other specialists to provide safe and effective anesthesia care while minimizing risks.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Preoperative Assessment & Patient Preparation

• Evaluate patients medical history, allergies, and anesthesia risk factors.
• Conduct pre-anesthesia check-ups (PACs) and discuss anesthesia plans with patients.
• Explain risks, benefits, and options (general, regional, or local anesthesia).
• Ensure proper airway assessment, fasting guidelines, and pre-medications.

2. Anesthesia Administration & Intraoperative Monitoring

• Select and administer appropriate anesthetic agents (inhalational, IV, regional, local).
• Continuously monitor vitals (BP, HR, SpO₂, ECG, ETCO₂, temperature) during surgery.
• Manage airway intubation, ventilation, and hemodynamic stability.
• Handle anesthesia complications like hypotension, allergic reactions, or cardiac arrest.
• Assist in pain management during surgical and non-surgical procedures.

3. Postoperative Care & Pain Management

• Oversee post-anesthesia recovery (PACU) and ICU patients.
• Ensure safe patient extubation and monitor for postoperative complications.
• Develop pain management strategies including epidural, PCA pumps, and nerve blocks.
• Educate patients on post-anesthesia effects, nausea control, and pain relief options.

4. Emergency & Critical Care Management

• Respond to code blue situations, trauma cases, and airway emergencies.
• Provide anesthesia for ICU procedures (intubation, central line placement, etc.).
• Assist in emergency resuscitations and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).

5. Coordination & Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Work closely with surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care.
• Participate in surgical planning and intraoperative decision-making.
• Contribute to hospital quality improvement and patient safety protocols.

6. Compliance & Documentation

• Maintain detailed anesthesia records and ensure adherence to hospital policies.
• Follow infection control, sterilization, and NABH/JCI guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards in anesthetic practice.

Qualifications & Requirements:

✅ Educational Qualifications:

• MBBS + MD / DNB (Anesthesiology) OR DA (Diploma in Anesthesia).
• Valid Medical Council Registration (MCI/NMC or State Council).

✅ Experience:

• 010+ years (Fresh postgraduates and experienced professionals can apply).

✅ Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency in airway management, spinal/epidural anesthesia, and critical care.
• Strong decision-making skills in high-risk and emergency situations.
• Excellent teamwork and communication with surgical and ICU teams.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on patient safety and pain control.
