Senior Pharmacist - Manipal Hospitals

The Senior Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing and providing high-quality pharmaceutical care in a clinical or hospital setting. This role involves supervising junior pharmacy staff, ensuring safe and effective medication use, providing medication therapy management, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. The Senior Pharmacist ensures compliance with regulations, formulary guidelines, and best practices, while maintaining a high standard of patient care and safety.

• Review, dispense, and monitor prescribed medications to ensure their safety, appropriateness, and efficacy for patients. Provide recommendations to physicians and other healthcare providers regarding medication therapies.
• Provide counseling to patients on the proper use of medications, potential side effects, interactions, and adherence strategies.
• Perform medication reviews, including drug therapy assessments, to ensure that treatments align with evidence-based practices and therapeutic guidelines.
• Monitor and report adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication errors, following proper protocols to enhance patient safety.
• Supervise and mentor junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other pharmacy staff. Provide guidance and support in complex cases, ensuring high standards of pharmaceutical practice.
• Conduct in-house training sessions for new staff and ongoing education for pharmacy team members to maintain and update their skills and knowledge.
• Assist in the evaluation and development of the pharmacy team’s performance, ensuring adherence to departmental goals and regulatory standards.
• Oversee inventory control, ensuring the timely procurement of medications and supplies while minimizing waste and ensuring compliance with formulary guidelines.
• Supervise the ordering, storage, and distribution of pharmaceuticals to ensure availability, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor and manage the use of medications with expiration dates to prevent wastage and ensure that medications are used before their expiration.
