Senior Designer

Role

The Senior Designer is responsible for the development, planning and optimization of mechanical and structural drawing / 3D-Model solutions, working in an interdisciplinary team. The Senior Designer creates detail design / fabrication drawings and support the creation of technical concept drawings, provides design guidance for internal and external designers in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. The Senior Designer has a degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable qualification and has excellent knowledge of CAD software, Data Management software, design methods, and good mobile machine knowledge (eg. Fatigue relevant design principals).

Responsibilities:

• Establish or support establishing design principals for internal and external design teams for collaborative and efficient execution of small and large assembly groups.
• Prepare mechanical and structural drawings / 3D-Models starting at the concept phase and move to the detailing / fabrication / As-Built drawings.
• Prepare drawings and/or 3D-Models for complex designs for segments of assigned projects.
• Prepare layout drawings, equipment drawings / 3D-Models and detail drawings / 3D-Models in compliance with internal process and client requirements / Specifications.
• Evaluate effects of changes and modifications of the design (e.g. structural changes) and provide solutions for the efficient execution of drawings / 3D-Models.
• Duties may include temporary out of town assignments.
• Review and comment internal or external design drawings / 3D-Models regarding project or internal process compliance.
• Capable to evaluate Technical Specifications regarding drawing / 3D Model creation and identify potential execution issues at an early stage (at sales or concept design phase for creating mitigation plans)
• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety.
• Accept accountability for both individual and project design team performance.

Perform lead designer role, manage the work of other designers/drafters (internal and external)

Preferred candidate profile

• Professional experience of around ten years drafting experience; or a Technical college or technical school plus more than five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires a good working knowledge of AutoCAD applications and understanding of the capabilities/limitations of the equipment relating to the efficient production of engineering documents.
• Must have very good knowledge with 3D Design Software (eg. Inventor, Solid Works, Advance Steel…).
• Requires a high level of technical ability in the design and CAD disciplines and application knowledge.
• Good experience in Material Handling and/or Mining Equipment
• Good English in speaking and writing
• Willingness to travel internationally or Vendor offices
