Senior Associate/Research Scientist
We are seeking early-career or aspiring scientists with expertise in atmospheric chemistry and air quality measurements and interest in air quality policy. The candidate should have experience in using AMS/ACSM or similar higher-end instruments or in deploying and analysing data from large networks of low-cost sensors for characterising urban and regional air pollution. Familiarity with air quality management will be a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct air pollution studies using reference- or research-grade gas monitors and aerosol characterisation equipment, AMS/ACSM, and networks of lower-cost air sensors.
- Develop proposals for external funding.
- Formulate research questions and perform data analysis to answer these questions.
- Develop data analysis tools and packages, as needed, in collaboration with our AI/ML and Digital Applications teams.
- Write reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Deliver lectures as part of capacity building workshops for external stakeholders including government officials and non-specialists.
- Present at national and international conferences and participate in/organise workshops.
- Mentor junior researchers on data analysis and report writing.
Qualifications
PhD in engineering or sciences, with doctoral research in air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, or a related field.
Experience
- Senior Associate: PhD with 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience.
- Research Scientist: PhD with a minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral experience. Proposal development skills and leadership experience in field campaigns (managing and mentoring research staff) required.
Skills
- Expertise in operating and maintaining AMS/ACSM/similar research instruments and/or large networks of low-cost sensors
- Proficient in Python or R or Igor Pro for data analysis and visualisation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals and presentations at international conferences.
