Job Summary:
We seek a highly motivated and innovative Design R&D Engineer to join our Research and Development team. The ideal candidate would play a crucial role in conceptualizing, designing, and testing automotive components and systems, focusing on improving vehicle performance, safety, aesthetics, and sustainability. This role offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge automotive technologies and contribute to the next generation of vehicle designs in the extreme mobility domain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptual Design & Development:
- Lead the design of new automotive components and systems (e.g., powertrain, chassis, interior, exterior).
- Work closely with other engineers to develop pragmatic solutions that meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and cost constraints.
- Develop 3D models and CAD drawings for new designs using industry-standard software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX).
- Prototyping & Testing:
- Collaborate with the testing team to prototype, validate, and refine new designs.
- Understand test results from simulations, and physical tests to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and durability standards.
- Perform failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) to anticipate potential issues and improve design reliability.
- Conduct Root-cause investigation of any failure found in testing.
- Design Optimization:
- Analyze and optimize the design of vehicle systems and components for weight, cost, fuel efficiency, safety, manufacturing, and service feasibility.
- Identify and implement design improvements based on testing results, customer feedback, and industry trends.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with engineers in other departments (e.g., procurement, manufacturing, quality control) to ensure design integrity and physical integration with other vehicle systems.
- Work closely with suppliers and vendors to source components and materials that meet design and quality specifications.
- Research & Innovation:
- Stay up-to-date with emerging automotive technologies, trends, and materials, and integrate these advancements into new vehicle designs.
- Drive innovation in electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving systems, and other future-focused automotive technologies.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including specifications, reports, and design reviews.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and industry standards, and provide necessary documentation for certification processes.
- Support to prepare user manuals and service literatures.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in automotive design and development, preferably with hands-on experience in sheet metal and plastic parts.
- Strong knowledge of any vehicle systems and components, including experience in CAD design, prototyping, and testing.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX).
- Adept with computers, MS Office.
- Strong understanding of automotive materials, manufacturing processes, and design optimization techniques.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, SAE, EN, JIS).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in electric vehicle (EV) or autonomous vehicle components design.
- Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques (e.g., 3D printing / additive manufacturing, composites (FRP), and Injection molding).
- Knowledge of Gasoline/diesel/Gas/hybrid/electric powertrain integration in vehicles.
- Experience with simulation tools for FEA (NX-CAE).
